This Revolution Will Be Televised

We're all human beings; if you're able to read this, then you're a member of the human race regardless of the color of your skin, the place you were born or what your native language is. Needed to get that out of the way before starting a post about how this black, revolutionary song from the 1970s is so relevant for all human beings all over the world.

The title of the song and poem I'm talking about, which was originally a popular slogan among the 1960s Black Power movements in the United States, is actually The Revolution Will Not Be Televised; I'm sure many of you will have heard or read the slogan at some time or another. I got to think about the song recently because of the 2020 presidential primaries, specifically because of the total media-blackout of the only candidate who's election would indeed bring about a revolution, Bernie Sanders; two weeks ago I wrote this post on the #BernieBlackout. The past two days I wrote about the endless and pointless war in Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) and placed all of America's foreign war in a galactic perspective in Star Wars, For Real, with both posts showing more reasons why Bernie's rise in the polls is kept quiet in the mainstream; he IS the revolutionary candidate that threatens the foundation on which the plutocracy's might is built.

The 1960s and 1970s were decades in which identity politics were effective still; 1968 marks the official end of the Civil rights movement a decades-long struggle by African Americans to end legalized racial discrimination, disenfranchisement and racial segregation in the United States, but we all know that the struggle never really ended, not only for African Americans, but for women and LGBTQ persons as well. But the song that is the subject of this post is about black people's struggle in particular, and paints a picture of how this group is suppressed by the corporate powers, the white corporate powers that also control what we see on TV. What I find striking, and this is without wanting to diminish the inequality that still exists, is that this song is so relevant today for people of all skin-colors; we're ALL suffering from the corporate powers that define our daily reality, that are able to continue illegal wars AGAINST the will of people of all colors, that won't pay a living-wage to ALL of us, that want to make us believe that healthcare for all and education for all will somehow cripple the economy. And the candidate who sees all this, and wants to take the democracy back to where it belongs, in the hands of we, the people, that candidate will not be televised...

That is: until he wins the primaries and becomes the Democrats nominee to take on Trump in the next general elections. I believe that if he manages that, all hell will break loose, because the powers that be will be so perplexed that their billions of dollars worth of efforts to prevent his nomination have failed, that they won't know WHAT to do to stop him from becoming the next president. There's literally nothing they can accuse him of, other than the good old "you're a socialist" and "do you want America to become Venezuela" tropes, which will not stand among Bernie's base and most younger people. The run-up to Bernie's revolution is not televised, but if he wins the primaries I don't believe even the corporate media will have any other choice than to televise the actual revolution. And we need that revolution to happen, all of us, not just Americans; Washington is the current capital of the world-empire not just the U.S. If only to save the planet for future generations through his Green New Deal, or to have even a slight chance to put a brake on the endless wars all over the world, we need this revolution to happen so it can be televised and act as a shining example for the world to follow.

"Who do you trust", that's the question all of us must ask ourselves, especially if you're an American; I hate to have to put this kind of responsibility on the shoulders of my American brothers and sisters, but the history of the world has given you a special place, one that I can not change... But for the time being, I'll keep doing my best to keep talking about the significance of this moment in time of human cultural evolution, and how rare a chance Bernie's candidacy represents; this truly is a once-in-a-generation chance to nudge that evolutionary path in the right direction, which is left ;-) And that's because people like Bernie Sanders don't come about very often in modern politics; this man has zero secondary objectives, all he cares about is the well-being of common people, and everything he says is truthful, just as everything he has done in his four decades old political career. So, watch this video for yet another example of what kind of a man he is, and why I would completely trust this man to become the next "leader of the free world." I love how he stays the same "cranky old man" in a moment that must have been quite emotional; nothing fake about this man, which is so rare in politics nowadays...
