The Balkanization of Social Media is Blinding you to the Most Important Developments in the World

I’m seeing a lot of high profile names get banned from Twitter and Facebook and most of these names were at one time among my favorite channels (except for Alex Jones). Alex was too much of an authority worshipper (Trump), though quite a lot of what he says is actually accurate. He made the mistake of falling off the right side of the horse. But that’s not what’s important about this. He was merely one of the first to fall in an important list of names calling out the abuses of the mainstream media.

There are several others who have done the same thing who are not as notable and may soon be on the chopping block. These people are at the forefront of understanding what is happening at the nexus of technology and social consequences. @caitlinjohnstone was recently blocked on Twitter which sparked me to write this article, but there are many others.

It’s far from a complete list, but these are among the next on the chopping block of social media because they consistently speak truth to power. The net result is that you can expect your news feeds to begin to look a little dull. Then the short attention span of the remainder of their social media pool will begin to wander off from the platform. Maybe eventually some will have figured out how to use a search engine other than Google and start using the web the way we used to back in the early 1990's.

Important Signs that you are at the Forefront of Change

• You’ve deleted or have been deleted from one or more of the main social media platforms
• You’re holding on to some cryptocurrency such as bitcoin and using a hardware or paper wallet
• You use a VPN, TOR, DuckDuckGo, Tails, Linux and dislike Windows
• You were interested in #Occupy but didn’t take the bait of later replacement protests staged by the state
• You have used decentralized internet

I expect that most centralized platforms will go the way of MySpace. However, Amazon shows no signs of going away and along with Google, Apple, and Microsoft, centralized IT threatens to create a digital panopticon which benefits the few while enslaving the rest of humanity.

There is one other source of change coming from the most unlikely of places: the Amish. Because they refuse everything technical, they are immune to its centralizing effects. They are growing in number in this area of upstate NY. When the financial system does collapse, they will be the ones most unaffected.
