Socialism is like pregnancy, you can't be a little bit pregnant, not can you have a little socialism. It all leads to the same place, large taxes and large government. Since it is an axiom that government does a poor job handling money, the most expensive way to pay for any item is through the government.
If they do a stellar job, the program looses 25%, but most government programs are lucky to hit 50% waste. Cost over runs are so bad, they will not publish the economics! The eventual endpoint of socialism is communism, and that communism is what is in Venezuela and Cuba. EVERY socialist country is headed to a communist government, it is simply a matter of degree. Stalin Loved it when the people "voted"; because HE controlled the people that counted the votes. That way, he could never loose!
As taxes (legal theft) increase, investment and hard work decrease, because the more a person does, the less he makes. The people with a high level of money find it is more cost effective to take that money off shore than to invest in businesses. This is what happened when Obama was in office, and this is what drives the unemployment up. Income crashes, and tax collection falls; so they raise taxes more, and more investors leave.
We have thrown millions of dollars into depressed neighborhoods for half a century plus. It does NOT work! Until we can teach people that they are not victims, we can not fix this problem. People that are able bodied need to Work to pay their own way, or we all fail. I am tired of carrying several able bodied people who just don't want to work! That is the core of socialism, producers carrying those who refuse to produce.

if you pay few hundred dollars tax it will hurt you more than it hurts bill gates... thats why the rich need to be taxed accordingly to their income... high taxes allow healthcare and education to be paid... these are costs the weak cannot carry... the good healthcare system in europe also means less kids die and therefore less kids need to be born... as a result less young workers pay into the retirement fund and in europe people save money to retire early, as the current retirement age in germany is 67.... since everyone has access to education and does not need to slave away for the rest of their lifes to pay back student debt, the productiveness is higher... educated workers just do less mistakes and can get a higher range of things done... also you cannot avoid government projects, as who else is willing to pay for infrastructure and schools and police?
where did those millions of dollars go? there are still low opportunities of jobs and education, causing a high crime rate...
Europe is dying. They have to combine every country there to build an aircraft to compete with Boeing, which is a single company in one state here.
If you take 100% of the money from the "Rich" it will run the government for about 10 days. The rest has to be taken from us. The problem is spending money that our grandchildren will be forced to pay for.

I favor a Constitutional Amendment that require the government to spend only what they take in, except in times of war. That will curb the cancer that is socialism.
Your healthcare system relied on US technology until we entered into the same cancer of socialized medicine too, and that killed our medical R&D too. Now we must rely on Israel for new technology, because US Medical R&D was destroyed in 2008. I have been to the trade shows, your Medical Manufacturers make "me too" products, under license from here.
Israel the only country rejecting socialized medicine, and is still doing research. I still get job offers from over there, and yes, I am that good at Medical R&D.
Our education costs spiralled out of control when the liberals took over the Universities, and Obama nationalized the loans. Again liberal poison, and the cancer of socialism.
WE pay for our schools and infrastructure, as well as Police. The money from the "Feds" is collected in real estate taxes, and fuel taxes. They then act like we need to kiss their asses to get our own MONEY back! THEY are not the source of anything that have not taken from us to begin with! With their History of waste and graft, it would be a lot cheaper to cut out this specific middle man.
The liberals have set up a sustenance living intended to destroy the black family. They give them just enough to get by, in exchange for no Father present! Over 70% of black children grow up in a single Mother Family because liberals hate Minorities.
