Colin Kaepernick Taking a knee, Pentagon Pays NFL Millions of Dollars for the National Anthem

If taxpayers new that our tax dollars were being given to a very wealthy elite organization like the NFL to have it's players stand on the field for the national Anthem, would the public take a knee? The NFL isn't voluntarily standing for the National Anthem, and they are not doing it to be Patriots. The NFL is having the players stand on the sideline in public view for several million dollars a years at our expense as taxpayers. I cite 2 sources where both authors give you some insight as to how much the National Anthem is costing our Nation at professional sporting events worth millions of dollars

Quote from: Emma Niles, Truth Dig

That changed in 2009, as the Department of Defense poured millions of dollars into the NFL in exchange for displays of patriotism during games. “Until 2009, no NFL player stood for the national anthem because players actually stayed in the locker room as the anthem played,” ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith explained in 2016. “The players were moved to the field during the national anthem because it was seen as a marketing strategy to make the athletes look more patriotic. The United States Department of Defense paid the National Football League $5.4 million between 2011 and 2014, and the National Guard $6.7 million between 2013 and 2015 to stage onfield patriotic ceremonies as part of military-recruitment budget line items.”

A quote from: Alexander Maveal, Global News

A 2015 joint oversight report by Arizona Republican senators John Flake and John McCain, entitled Tackling Paid Patriotism, revealed that between 2012 and 2015, the DOD spent $53 million on professional sports contracts, which included in-stadium signage and other branded content.Of that, the report found $6.8 million of the money given to professional sports leagues, including the NHL, was spent on “inappropriate” patriotic displays aimed at recruiting service members.

“Americans deserve the ability to assume that tributes for our men and women in military uniform are genuine displays of national pride, which many are, rather than taxpayer-funded DOD marketing gimmicks,” the report said.

USA Today reported the NFL received $6 million alone to stage “paid patriotism” events, which included military personnel running onto the field with flags to flyovers by Air Force jets.

After reading about the cost of the National Anthem at sporting events, has that changed your mind on the Issue of Colin Kaepernick taking a knee during the ceremony?

A Quote from: President Trump on his opinion of Colin Kaepernick after receiving a recent Nike endorsement.

As much as I disagree with the Colin Kaepernick endorsement, in another way — I mean, I wouldn’t have done it,” he said.

“In another way, it is what this country is all about, that you have certain freedoms to do things that other people think you shouldn’t do, but I personally am on a different side of it.”

Colin Kaepernick had put his career on the line to make a statement on issues he believed in strongly enough to sacrifice millions of dollars as a Quarteback in the NFL. I must give Colin Kaepernick credit for putting his money where his mouth is, he paid a big price for his personal beleifs. Taking a knee during the National Anthem is in Action a rather simple way to make a statement, and Colin Kaepernick succeeded in doing so.

As a Veteran I'm not offended by Colin Kaepernick's actions. I did my time in the US Army and I can say I defended Colin Kaepernick's right to take a knee. The First Amendment is so important that I believe in defending people who express issues I don't necessarily agree with, to preserve that Amendment. I also believe in this American Quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson,"Dissent is the highest form of Patriotism". I believe that being a Patriot is bigger than the National Anthem. As a matter of fact Mark Twain knows what it's all about to be a Patriot,"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”

Thank you @natepower for this very informative article. Love Thomas Paine and his quote.

Thanks L.A., I was wondering if people would be so mad at Colin Kaepernick Taking a knee if they new the NFL was getting paid by US taxpayers to have the players stand for the National Anthem, when most would think they are doing it out of Patriotism? Thanks so much for the comment and reading the post L.A., it's always greatly appreciated.

Yup I want my money back for this anthem mess, didn't get what I paid for and I'm dissatisfied with the product. Tax payer funds for social engineering projects have made this country all sorts of messed up and they all need to end asap.

Indeed Gregory, you would think we wouldn't have to pay millionaires millions of dollars to do something ceremonial at a game that lasts about a minute or two, if we have to pay them to show up for the national anthem let's save millions of dollars and have them wait in the locker room.
