BREAKING NEWS: BREXIT — Government Meltdown

in #informationwar6 years ago (edited)

As soon as Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May announced that her cabinet has backed hers draft EU withdrawal agreement, the resignations started to pour… seven so far!

Yesterday, we had a clear signal from the big banks that Brexit will not go as Theresa May wanted… or not wanted, because a good deal of her cabinet thought she has done everything to reverse the Brexit referendum results. And resings started.

If we do not count Johnson brothers who already resigned earlier, the first who resigned over the published draft EU withdrawal agreement, was Shailesh Vara, the Minister of State at the Northern Ireland Office. Just about an hour after his announcement, the second was no other than Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab – the man charged with negotiating and finalizing the deal! He said he was stepping down, stating that the Brexit deal in its current form suffers from deep flaws. Raab claimed that the deal in its current form gives the EU veto power over the UK’s ability to annul the deal.

Then came Work and Pensions Secretary Esther McVey. She didn’t hold back when issuing her own letter of resignation. According to McVey, the deal “does not honour” the result of the Brexit referendum, in which a majority of Brits voted to leave the European Union.

Suella Braverman, a junior minister in Britain’s Brexit ministry, issued her resignation today, saying that she couldn’t stomach the deal.

Then Rehman Chishti anounced his resignation as the Vice-Chair of the Conservative party stating that he “cannot support” the draft EU Withdrawal deal.

This torrent of resignation continued with Ranil Jayawardena, Ministry of Justice PPS, and Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Department of Education PPS.

Despite everything, at a press conference in Downing Street, Theresa May says she believes in her deal “with every fibre of my being”:

So “the banking indicator” was very accurate, and now we have a government meltdown which will probably lead to the new elections and another chance for — as Theresa May would say — “Corbyn’s rabid Marxists” to get the power. But for them, that would be more of a great responsibility and less of a celebration — Tories have left a desolation which will be accentuated with a hard Brexit in March, and the imminent drop in GDP.

Prepare popcorn and beer — we are going to watch the clash between a former empire and an aspiring one. With no winner at all…
