ok smithlabs the answer man! thanks

No problem, it was just a big mylar balloon in a small package; that is inflated in orbit. Cheap shade.

a mylar baloon that's a hundred something..how big did you say that thing was?

Big enough to see by eyesight only when it went over! I remember watching it from my front yard as it orbited. We could make it any size, and inflate it like a kids toy bounce house. It could just unfold as it inflated.

Now, for something you never saw before! This is a commerative stamp I bought about the Echo Satellite.

smithlabs! no sir I ain't never seen nothin like that before, that's awesome!
that is super cool. I never heard of this balloon satelite, when was it doing that cruising over when you could see it?

I got this stamp, because it was the first object I saw in Orbit! It was bright, and Big, and The USA had put it up there in 1960! I remember sitting in My Dad's lap, while he pointed it out to me!
That was a great time, and very exciting!

:)

I was 6 years old in 1960.

Project Echo
Project Echo was the first passive communications satellite experiment. Each of the two American spacecraft, launched in 1960 and 1964, was a metalized balloon satellite acting as a passive reflector of microwave signals. Communication signals were bounced off them from one point on Earth to another.

Amazing, I don't even need to click the link! >:(
