Writing and blogging tips: Sharing videos.

in #informationwar6 years ago (edited)

Hello my fellow information warriors. This post is about sharing videos under the #informationwar tag and on steemit in general. The goal is to improve our sharing and communication skills so we can be even better info warriors.

[Note I'm using the IW video as an example of what I see posted on steemit in other videos and doesn't reflex the content created by this youtube channel]

This first example here is what I would call needs improvement.

Example 1 - needs improvement post:

Title: Meet some of the crew behind Information War and talk about Earning Crypto Currency

(Title is copied straight from the youtube title. This is fine as long as people understand what you're trying to communicate but preferable it would better to add your own content to the title)

  • end of post

(So you have a title and a video both copied and pasted from someone else's work taking only a few minutes to create and post on steemit. Plus, there's not even a short description so no one really knows what this video is about without actually watching it. This is what I would call a post that is a bit lacking and I would not upvote it)

This next example I would consider a good post that I would upvote.

Example 2 - Good post:

Title: MSP waves podcast: interview with the leaders of the informationwar project.

(Original title that you created and it explains what the post is all about, very good)

Description: This is an hour long podcast that was originally aired live August the 10th on @pennsif's alternative lifestyle show where he interviews all sorts of people using steemit. A good chunk of Friday's show was interviewing the guys from @informationwar project mainly @truthforce, @dwinblood, @richq11 and @gregorypatrick. The main focus of the show was to share with other people on steemit what the IW project is all about and their plans for the future on other social media platforms.

(A short description of what the podcast is about. This is good because people can read it and get an understanding of what the video is about before they click on it.)

I found this interview very informative and they explained the project and it makes more sense to me now. I'm happy to hear that all these guys share similar beliefs about censoring free speech. I can't wait to start blogging more about politics and tagging the #informationwar for a chance to get rewarded for sharing my thoughts.

(Sharing your opinion about the video. This is another good thing because it tells people why you liked the video and gives them an expectation of what they might get out of watching the video for themselves)

  • end of post

The second example is what I would call a good post because it has an original title, description and your personal thoughts on the video. This is exactly what I'm looking for in posts sharing videos. You will get upvotes all the time from me if you follow this example.

I hope this helps some of you out the next time you want to post a video.

Thanks for reading.

It would be nice if we could get these videos up somewhere other than youtube as well. Censorship resistance.

I would say that this is good advice no matter what tag or community someone is posting in. A little extra work can go a long way and, like yourself, I am certainly more likely to drop an upvote on someone's post if they put a little extra effort into it.

Thank you for taking the time to share with us the difference between a poor post and a good post. It was worth reading and I felt it was well done.
