Top General Puts Another Pin in the Idea of Any Troop Pullout
I mentioned in my most recent video, "Peace Talks", that I thought the 5 year window for troop withdrawal from Afghanistan was unacceptable. It reeks of Obama-era language, where the war doesn't end, but also stays out of the headlines. The "mission creep" will continue, or the occupation of foreign lands as I call it.
On Thursday, Central Command chief Gen. Joseph Votel told the House Armed Services Committee that he feels that the "political conditions" on the ground in Afghanistan do not warrant discussion of withdrawal. This is the same excuses used for the last 18 years, and it is the same "condition" the country will be in moving into the future. All countries that a foreign power occupies is going to have political turmoil which will eventually lead to violence. Afghanistan has never been conquered, but it has been held for long periods of time. People make money off that occupation, and I'm sure Gen. Votel has a nice job in his future as a board member of a defense contracting company.
General Votel also stated that he felt "no pressure" to begin removing troops from Syria, even after the announces to do so. I applauded Trump for pushing for withdrawal, but no actual movement has taken place. Why should the general feel pressure? More money lies on the side of permanent war and empire.

It's disgusting. More money is spent on these forever wars every year than all other non-military spending combined, fomenting violence and making the world less safe. Yet nobody in the public eye seriously considers any alternative, or asks how we're going to pay for it. Anything military is always guaranteed a blank check, and all the government and media sycophants are part of it, carving out their own piece of the pie. It's horrific, corrupt, and unsustainable.
