My Dirty and Disgraceful Past

in #indigenous5 years ago (edited)

Hi All,

As part of the colonizers we have to be truthful about our dirty and horrific past. We come from a very brutal and aggressive people who savagely murdered the Indigenous peoples who called that land home and existed there for thousands of years.

We came over to these foreign lands and judged ourselves as a superior race and from a Eurocentric point of view, and the Indigenous Nations as the inferior race.

The Doctrine of Discovery set the stage for the theft of the Indigenous Lands and stated that their lands were open for occupation and eventual ownership by the Europeans. The Europeans saw the Indigenous lands as virgin and unoccupied, but this was false and based on two different world-views of land and how it should be used

The Indigenous Nations have a deep connection to their land and they maintained their land and ensured that it would be taken care for the 7 generations after them. When the Europeans came over they described the land as bountiful and extravagant and this was no accident on the part of the Indigenous. They put great effort into having well-cared for and exceptionally maintained land.

Judging the Indigenous from a Eurocentric point of view allowed the brutal murder and attempted extermination of the Indigenous Nations. As described by a Jesuit who witnessed what his people were doing he saw the Europeans cut people in half, and had games as to see who could kill the most people. They raped children and woman and used Indigenous babies as dog food. They burned people alive and they were very savage and sadistic in nature.

The Christians are a disgrace to what peace stands for and they have only brought on misery and pain to the Indigenous Nations, since contact. The Indigenous Nations see their surrounding as having a spirit and everything is to be respected and appreciated. This includes water, land and animals. The Christians used fear and power to coerce the Indigenous Nations to submit to their power they wanted to have over them.

We can see today that the some Christians and the Vatican church consists of pedophiles who gained their vast wealth from raping and pillaging the Indigenous Nations land for their own benefit. Power is deeply embedded in the vatican church and they have caused so many problems around the world. They claim to be based on good values but this is the furthest thing from the truth and people have to understand that their values and belief systems are very dark in nature and have caused so much harm to the Indigenous Nations.

Religion in general has caused so much war and confusion and we have to realize that these religions are nothing more than a front to exert power, control and fear over us all. The Indigenous Nations, lived a spiritual life and high moral and ethical values were embedded into their culture and societies. The teachings of Jesus Christ have been manipulated and changed in order to elicit a response from followers to maintain a distorted understanding of life and our true essence that has not been for our benefit.

The history books are filled with lies and the history of the Indigenous Nations and my European ancestors tried to kill them off and committed despicable acts against these peaceful and loving people. They wanted to destroy their culture and everything that gave them meaning in their lives.

This attempted genocide on the Indigenous Nations, has had a detrimental affect on the Indigenous Nations today and many suffer from the harmful effects that they experienced at the hards of the colonizers, my ancestors.

I am not proud of my past and we as part of the colonizers have to accept responsibility for the acts of genocide we committed against the Indigenous Nations. We have to question our very legitimacy to these lands that we now call home. How do you think it felt to the Indigenous when our ancestors came over and attacked them so ferociously? How would we feel if someone did the same thing to us today? Stealing our babies and children and raping our woman, calling us heathens and telling us we are inferior?

Don't take our White privilege that we have for granted and understand why you seem to have it on? We are not better than the Indigenous Nations, and in reality we are the savages and uncivilized race. We have to make amends with the Indigenous Nations, and if that means giving up what we claim to have ownership over now, well then so be it. We have to let the Indigenous Nations determine what takes place on their lands instead of bulldozing our own values and beliefs systems unto a people who have called this land home since time immemorial.

I'm not sure if it's too late for us to save our Earth that has been attacked since the Western Industrial culture took over, maybe it is. Are we going to keep going down this destructive path where we are focused on extracting resources from our Earth in the name of wealth and so-called advancement?

Are you going to be part of the solution or perpetuate the problem?

In highest regards to the Indigenous Nations,
J

I upvoted this because I sense your heart is in the right place, despite some misconceptions I believe you hold as far as assigning blames.

All people have their share of evil people, and the way structures work these people will seek exploits to gain the positions of power within the communities they live in. I refuse to take guilt for what others of my skin color have done, or may continue to do. Just as I hold no group of other skin colored people all as being guilty because of crimes from the past or crimes currently being committed by others who have the same hue to their skin.

I am of Irish descent for example, and many of my people were brought here not so voluntarily. Nor was the treatment received very humane, and it is also a fact that Irish people were not granted a lot of say in the doings of the powerful here in the U.S. There were also many Irish who fought on the side of Mexico in the land grab of 1846.

Putting that aside, I would use modern day dynamics under the microscope. The government that demands I pay them x amount of dollars (their claim to my sweat) that in turn are used to force others in lands far away to also pay to their true constituents (business/bankers) is not one I endorse. They don't ask my permission, they dictate I will fund it or be put in a prison.

At some point, group blame will either be the death blow to stopping any form of unification to stop those of evil intent, or it will be shed as we understand it is used to keep us fighting among ourselves while they exploit our dis-ease with one another.

And for what it is worth, these same evil dynasties that are responsible for the horrible crimes you mention target white communities as well. It is not about race with them, it is about their view most of us except their select bloodlines are cattle to be exploited and discarded when no longer useful.

I didn't colonize anything, you didn't colonize anything. I don't owe anyone for the actions of others, and I don't expect anyone to owe me for the actions of others. There is no white privilege, there is wealth privilege. Usually when I see the argument for privilege, it is used in the context of having less violence used against one in the current locality. I would argue that this is not privilege, it is what all free men and women are owed and instead of arguing for it to end, the argument should be on all men and women having the same basic right to be free of violence and obtain their daily bread unmolested.

I love a quote by Albert Einstein "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing."

You're entitled to your own opinion and i'm not trying to push my feelings about the how I acknowledge that my ancestors played a contributing role in trying to wipe out the Indigenous Nations.

I believe we have to understand where we came from in order to know where we are headed. This is our past and it is truly horrendous. It is my belief that we can't dismiss the past because we did not live during that time and by not taking a stand against the injustices that the Indigenous face, then we are continuing to be part of the problem.

I am expressing how I feel and thank you for sharing how you feel. I also believe that there are evil bloodlines who are responsible for this, but my ancestors played a role in supporting these evil acts, so I accept responsibility for this and I want to make amends.

How can we do that, well we have to let the Indigenous Nations determine that because we have pushed ourselves on them already. If we all lived by their standards, the world we live in today would be a much better place.

Thanks for engaging in a meaningful discussion and have an enjoyable day.
