The Phantom gradually, gravely, quietly drew nearer. When it came, Scrooge twisted downward on his knee; for in the very air through which this Spirit moved it appeared to dissipate anguish and secret.
It was covered in a profound dark piece of clothing, which hid its head, its face, its frame, and left nothing of it obvious spare one outstretched hand. In any case, for this it would have been hard to isolate its figure from the night, and separate it from the obscurity by which it was encompassed.
