Crypto India: Winds Of Change?

in #india5 years ago

A few interesting things have taken place in India in recent times starting with Binance.

  1. Binance acquires India's biggest crypto exchange WazirX. This has gotten the entire crypto space in India feeling positive about the chances of pro-crypto regulations coming in the future. It remains to be seen if this move from Binance makes any impact in terms of pro-crypto lobbying. But, I hope other major exchanges will continue pushing forward with their marketing initiatives in India.

  2. RBI vs Crypto Exchanges case being fought in the Supreme Court of India has been pushed forward to January 14th, 2020. The 2nd case against the proposed crypto ban bill is also scheduled for hearing in January 2020.

  3. The draft ban bill was supposed to go to the parliament for a vote during the winter session in December. But that doesn't seem to the case for now as the government hasn't prioritised the bill for the time being as it isn't on the agenda for now. I hope they will re-work it to make it pro-crypto ownership and speculation before forming any new law.

  4. Indian government is also planning a national level blockchain framework. How this shapes up is yet to be seen!

That's all for now. Let's see how the new year shapes up.
