I have been using Steem since January 2018. In October, I signed up for smoke.io, a blockchain for the cannabis/smoking community - one that was cloned from the Steem blockchain and is only a few months old. Smoke.io has an interface which will be familiar to users of Steemit.com.

Why bother with two blockchains Barge? And WTF are you doing promoting smoke.io on Steem?

Actually I really like the idea of linking the two blockchains together in this manner. I feel that being on both blockchains expands my presence, each with a different focus. Smoke.io is a close relative of Steem, functionally very similar but otherwise a fully independent being. There is kinship between the chains, and there are many Smoking Stemians to be found there!

The quote below is from a discussion around the move to smoke.io, in which I state:

"for me (and I'm not moving entirely), there is (1) the niche aspect (2) the starting over but with the experience of Steem (3) the more grounded, organic approach to interacting and curating manually, without the layers of automation and gaming which have developed over here - it's refreshing (4) earning, sure, but that has always been a by-product for me, a consequence of self-expression, not the driver of it."
