IFC S2R16: Create a Word

I wanted to create a genuinely useful word for this challenge and had a few options in front of me. I knew that rather than create a simple word I wanted to create a grammatical change that would infer meaning through the amalgamation of preexisting words.

In the end, the change I decided to make was to create a new word from the word "I."

"I want to go to the beach."

"I hate you."

"You are not as smart as I."

"I shouldn't dance."

Observe the above sentences and consider the manner in which they can be interpreted. Is the speaker talking about an idea that is tied specifically to how they are feeling in the present, or are they attempting to communicate a core aspect of their being that they consider true at any time throughout their life?

By editing the word "I" in these sentences, simply adding on a bit to the word, the difference between these two concepts can be established without the need to add extra words.

I decided that I wanted the standard I to represent the present tense and the speaker's feelings based on what's happening in the moment. So to establish a version of "I" that represents the totality of one's existence, I knew I simply had to find a way to edit the word I. There were a few options to go with, looking at words like "always" "forever" and the likes. But "Ali" sounds like "ally" and "Fori" sounds too much like "for I," so I had to get a little more abstract.

I decided to go with "Evi," pronounced "EVE-I" as it connects to the word every, and also Eve from the bible who is said to be named as such for being the mother of all living.

Using this grammatical change, a new word Evi is created which essentially means "all of my being," and it becomes possible to express some ideas in far less words, providing a tad more efficiency to the language.(supposing I've not overlooked something)

"I always want to go to the beach" could be simplified to "Evi want to go to the beach."

"I have always and will always hate you" becomes " Evi hate you."

"You have never and could never be as smart as me" would be communicated far easier by saying "You're not as smart as Evi"

"I should never dance" then becomes "Evi shouldn't dance."

I also considered "Peri," to create a new pronoun using the words "perpetual" or "persistently," but in truth, because this is an entirely new addition to the language, both sound just as out of place as each other.

Nevertheless, I feel the change adds some extra utility and efficiency to the English language and so I chose to stick with this one.

This could also be taken further with additional ways of editing the word "I" to create a new pronoun that carries a little more information with it, but as this is merely for fun and for practise in regards to the construction of my own language for my fictional world, I shall leave it at this for now.

Thanks for reading.

Hello @lordless.exile, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!

Thank you very much! I appreciate that.

Very interesting choice! Evi like the direction you went in and appreciate the thought you put into this. I often get frustrated with being limited to saying "I" or "me" or "myself" so much, so just having another word to use to describe myself is I think epic! Though it's not just another word to describe myself, it's a new word that adds extra meaning to that in an interesting and useful way! Very clever man.. Very clever.

I'm pleasantly surprised with how this round turned out, we got numerous great entries. An excellent start to creating a new language! :D All of this was inspired by your response to my older thread about creating a new movement and I'm excited about the potential and possibilities involved! Glad you talked to me about your ideas in regards to this. It's been on my mind a lot lately! Also I read your message on discord and found it fascinating! I plan on responding soon, before I go to sleep and I have some neat things to add.

Oh one other thing that I wanted to say which I found is sort of interesting is that if you add an L onto the end of Evi, you get evil. Heh. Not that that necessarily means anything or is a bad thing, I just found it interesting.
I like how the word Evi has a feminine aspect in relation to Eve as well as some people consider the creation of all existence to be feminine, and we have "mother earth" and "nature" which can be related to Mater, and the Matrix which is suppose to be a womb.. So.. The word makes a lot of sense!

Excellent entry! All of them have been good but I like yours and leaky20's the most. Not sure how I'm going to vote yet, I guess I'll cross that bridge when we get there, but I'm pretty certain at least one of my 3 votes is going towards this entry. Great job! Thanks for playing in another round and for offering us an awesome new word to use and think about! :) -Apolymask (Oops, forgot I was on the IFC account as I usually respond on my apolymask one, oh well. Don't think it really matters one way or the other.)

Thank you. I really liked leaky20's as well. It sounds far more English than mine, as if it were destined to be a word.

Mine sounds so alien. But, if you like the idea of I being modifiable to carry more information with it, then we can always consider it for the language we've spoken of creating.

I also noticed that you have responded on discord, and I intend to get back to you before this night is through. You made some very interesting points, ones that I had in my mind already too which makes me feel like perhaps we are onto something.

Oh wow. I like the direction that you took for the challenge. It's very interesting. I like the efficiency of it. Nice entry. Its very well thought out and well done!
