My mother is asking me for things I consider to be insane. I am puzzled.

Today, I delivered a new electronic photo frame to her. I began with a group of 20 photos of family with a few artistic shots included. The frame cycles through these in random order.

As she watched them for the first time, I had to tell her who was in the picture. The frame continued to cycle.

The second time through... she continued to ask ‘who is this?’. Her memory lasts less than 10 minutes.

This afternoon she called to ask for something else. She wants an artist’s rendering of Jesus Christ.

By my ‘standards’ this is totally INSANE. From her point of view, she wishes for someone to pray to. Rather she wishes for an image of someone to pray to: an idol.

I believe idols are ridiculous. Many millions of people disagree with me... I understand... regrettably.

I will shop for her even though it is insane. I quickly tracked down two options. Please vote your choice of gift. The first image is ‘loving Jesus’. The second image is a likeness of Jesus after he drove the money-changers from the temple...’angry Jesus’.
