Which ICO's should i put in my basket and how i get not crazy?!

in #ico7 years ago (edited)

If you ever looked at the ICO (Initial Coin Offering) market today there are countless of multicolored eggs you can choose from, to use it as metaphor for all crowdfundings of blockchain technologies or simply attention arousing coins some with more eye candy than they deserve and there others looking like ugly ducklings but may be the disruptors of the entire crypto scene in the future. Amazing times ahead steemit friends! I'll we give you my ideas and hope i can learn something from you.

If you're a regular person like me with a job or business that's not directly referenced to blockchain or cryptocurrency it's almost impossible to review all the upcoming ICO's today and in the future. But there are some very nice helpers out there i'll list for you that i find very useful. Additionally i'll show you an more complex and systematic approach i've learned by Julian Hosp (CVO TenX).

1. Great sites to get quick Ideas for past, current and upcoming ICO's

https://icotracker.net/ (my preferred source currently)
great overview with points rating system from 0 to 100 and also SCAM alerts. Unfornately many ICO's are not rated but you get first ideas.

https://www.icoalert.com/
here you can find free reports and opinions by authors about different ICO's, also a good starting point

another great site, thanks to @poias ! he give me the hint in my introduction a few days ago

Ok with these source i got always a little traction for further research on some ideas without getting crazy. If i have choosen an ICO i'll dig deeper and use a 25 points system within 5 categories. In each category the ICO can get 5 points max. If the ICO has at least 15 points then it might be interesting to invest in, but if there is one category with zero it's a red flag also if there is less then 3 points in one category it could be critical.

To be honest i do it more intuitive than it sounds here. But the point system is a good control mechanism and a reminder in the final step don't forget important points to look for. My experience is never rush and better think of an idea one day more before i decide to get in or do further research.

What are the five categories?

In each category i tried to find 5 subcategories so it's easy to give 0 or 1 point or may 0.5
1. Market potential

  • basic idea and concept
  • biggest contenders
  • size, market penetration currently
  • goals, milestones
  • unique features

2. Team

  • strong leader
  • history members
  • age of team
  • successes
  • public profiles of members

3. Implementation

  • realistic, clear plan
  • products
  • trustworthy dev
  • experienced dev
  • fast dev
  • enthusiasm

4. Marketing and communication

  • token (name, meaning, design)
  • website (informational content, structure, news, design)
  • whitepaper (credible content, professional)
  • investor relationship (current vlogs, blogs, slack disscussions, response time, behaviour,..)
  • important contacts (industry, partners, research)

5. Structure

  • integrity (all components above should fitting together, consistent)
  • ICO structure (max. 20% coins at founders, wide spread participants,..)
  • coins hard cap, inflationary,..
  • initial coin supply
  • appreciation potential (industry adoption, PoW, PoS), incentives

That list is far from perfect. What do you think about? How do you evaluate ICO's and what points i'm missing?
