Orvium - The Key Features And Project Potential

Science according to Oxford Reference is said to be "The observation and experimentation on the physical and natural world in order to study its structure and behavior" while technology is basically putting this scientific knowledge into practical use. Science and technology work hand in hand, interacting together to bring forth development in our world today.

Science and technology have evolved at a rapid pace over the years and with zettabytes of scientific data already recorded and billions of dollars already spent on different forms of research, this is an industry that is rich in information but has stalled in the aspects of making this information available.

Orvium tackles this problem through the blockchain, by creating a system where all the process required to create complete and informative scientific publications is taken, combining both the process the current publishers take and the ones that are inexplicably skipped, together in a trustless and transparent system, in order to publicize to the scientific community only the right information and thus push forward the world's technological growth.

What Makes Orvium Work

I stated in my first article "here" the technologies that are going to be used in combination with the blockchain to achieve the desired functionality of this system, and I will be shedding some light on what these technologies are and how they work;

1. Blockchain, Smart contracts, and Decentralized Storage: The blockchain as we all know by now is a decentralized ledger of information. This ledger is public with a lot of applications which are controlled by smart contracts, initiating commands for a lot of parties involved in interactions or transactions based on the set terms of that transaction.
   One of the major appeals of the blockchain is that information is stored cheaply on a decentralized storage which is in the form of nodes and are always encrypted. By using the blockchain for this system Orvium is able to eliminate the cost of data storage and hiring personnel to monitor interactions between different parties. Orvium is also able to eliminate the possibility of human error and inefficiency.
2. Cloud Computing: When putting simply, cloud computing can be described as the act of storing and accessing data on the internet, this data could be a file, info-graphic, personal data etc. Typically with cloud computing, one uses the internet rather his/her hard drive, however, traditional cloud hosting services still experiences the same problems that decentralization is against, for example, IBM or Amazon cloud services have physical servers somewhere which they spend a lot of money to house, maintain, secure and run.
   The solution to this is a decentralized cloud which the orvium platform will utilize to provide almost limitless scalability, flexibility, and high transaction speed. The decentralized cloud service combined with the decentralized storage will provide the Orvium platform with an infrastructure that is more effective than what the centralized companies offers but at a really cheaper cost.
3. Machine Learning: machine learning is a form of artificial intelligence that often makes use of flexible statistical techniques in order to make a computer systems progressive machine that is capable of learning and progressively improve their performance by analyzing data, creating patterns and carrying out future commands without being explicitly programmed.
   Machine learning is a very important technology to the Orvium platform as it gives the platform an intelligent layer capable of adapting to advancements, a complex/wide range of inputs and change.
   A lot of blockchain projects have failed because although smart contracts can be programmed to carry out certain actions in certain situations, there are some cases that require the complex reasoning that a human is capable of, this highlights the importance of an investment in artificial intelligence which Orvium has done.
4. Big Data Analytics: This is basically the process of explicitly examining the large and varying set of data. This feature will work hand in hand with the machine learning feature of the platform in order to analyze a very large set of complex data, to recognize hidden patterns, trends, unknown correlations, user preference as well as other important information.
   This feature helps the systems to view users like the individuals that they are, because people act, react and take actions differently in different scenarios. In a peer to peer system of thousands of people creating, reviewing, funding and publishing important scientific work, this is a very important technology to adopt.

This four features combined together create a platform/system, that is transparent, open, recognizes attempts to cheat through plagiarism, differentiate between honest and dishonest reviews, cheap and efficient to run, and rewards all the parties involved fairly.
