See Ya Later, Irma!!

Hurricane Irma has come and gone leaving a huge mess behind to be cleaned up by the resilient population here in Florida. Irma takes the blame for 16 reported deaths in the state. Although dollar estimates have come in, they are in no way indicative of the true cost of such a natural disaster. There simply is no way to put a dollar amount on pain, suffering and anguish.

Residents began cleanup even before the storm had made it's exit. Neighbor helping neighbor with head count, supply checks and cleanup assistance. Here are just a very few snaps of damage done to Kissimmee, Florida.

No riding the rails today

The miles of rails running through Kissimmee and the outlying areas run through thick forest and old oak hammocks. The rails are littered with storm damage up and down the route.

Someone else isn't going far, either!

Lots of vehicle damage was seen, mostly from tree damage. I have a pickup truck with a hard case tonneau cover. The locking mechanism was sheared off and the cover was standing open after the storm. I had moved the truck out from under the cover of huge oaks in my yard.

Irma got in on the statue toppling movement

Not to be outdone by the statues, numerous park benches, bus stop shelters, awnings and pavilions also made there appearance in haphazard fashion.

Which one should I choose?

Judging from these three options, I would choose the FedEx box to place my valuable documents into.

My hope is that all Steemians who were in the path of Irma came out with little or no damage. I know many have power outages that may not be resolved as quickly as we like, but hopefully no lasting damage has been done.

What a very great post to see what actual damage Irma did. It is sad that so many lost their lives but I am so glad there weren't more. You are right, no one can put a dollar value on what was lost. I hope you and your family recover from such damage. Hang in there Tamaralovelace!!! You are so resilient and strong, that I am in awe of you!!! Please take care!

Awww....you are too kind! My damage was minimal and the neighbors got the big stuff for me. All the little twigs and things can compost in place until I am finished at the hospital. Still awaiting power, though! Summer in Florida without a/c is brutal lol. Thanks so much @cabbagepatch!

I unfortunately had such a busy day taking Lady to the Oncologist that my day was all thrown off. That is why I am still up! I just wanted to say that I am glad you didn't have too much damage but I feel bad for your truck. Please take care!!!!! :D

Oh thank you! The truck is small potatoes...I am grateful that that is the worst of the damage. I hope all went well at the Oncologist! You are well aware how exhausting it is to be caretaker. Now I say to you what you so often say to me. You must get your rest and take care of yourself. Make sure you eat and rest enough. Give Lady a hug from across the states for me and do take care :)

Very good and powerful striking images. Hang in there! Our thoughts are with you all!

Thank you so much for your visit and your support!

Absolutely amazing thats it only killed 16 people. Florida residents are amazing breed of people, I have helped in clean ups of past hurricanes in Florida , i believe it was Ivan and I can tell you the community pulls together in times like this. A year from now you wont even beable to tell a hurricane hit them. Good post @tamaralovelace .

Thanks so much Ray! You're right..they do pull together and it's a beautiful thing. This is one of the few things that will keep the Walmart doors locked lol. Have a great night!
