Doing nothing for refugees is a crime against humanity.

"So you're saying we should do nothing?"

Why is "help refugees" so casually dismissed as nothing? If it's nothing then why don't we do it? Why doesn't it ever get mentioned in the policy discourse around US intervention?

It's the one bit of policy that doesn't require us to know where Syria is on a map, doesn't require anyone to know what Ba'athism is. Doesn't require any complex understanding of Middle Eastern geopolitics. All it requires is the same empathy for Syrians fleeing their bombed out homes that you'd show if your neighbor locked himself out of his house.

Prove that we're capable of doing that bit of "nothing" that only asks us to respect people's humanity and not interfere in their escape, and then we can talk about all the explosive "somethings" you're just itching to fire at people.

If helping refugees were really nothing, you wouldn't be so unwilling to accept it.

Yes! We also cannot just sit here and not do anything just because the problem is SO HUGE.
