Bouillon Cubes… they’re not just for soup anymore!
The way that I remember it, the history of bouillon cubes is an interesting one. Obviously, like many other foods, they have had to fight to keep their position in our diets, and after several marketing attempts to diversify the common uses of bouillon cubes, it looks like this food is here to stay.
However, many people are simply not grasping the full spectrum of uses, both culinary and non, that bouillon cubes have to offer. It is due to this tragic reality that I bring you this post today!
Bouillon cubes have so much more to offer than simply being used to make broth or soup. For families on the go, they provide a wonderful afternoon snack option, which far too many families overlook.
The long lasting melting characteristic makes them a solid rival for the “everlasting gobstopper” and they are much better for the planet than those pesky suckers with a stick. In some ways, I would even offer that allowing one to dissolve slowly on your tongue may be an even more exciting feeling than Pop Rocks!
Besides the afternoon snack opportunity, for those of us who grew up in the 1980s we should remember what an excellent Halloween treat they may. I believe that the craze of handing out bouillon cubes at Halloween started in Sheboygan, WI in 1982 as an attempted “trick,” but the response of the children was incredible and for the next few years offering bouillon cubes to trick-or-treaters became the only way to ensure that your yard, house, and trees would remain egg and TP free for the next year.
Though this craze faded off after 1987, it was certainly a wonderful time when it lasted and it is even rumored in some circles that the bouillon cubes may be due for comeback by 2019. Time will tell, but @papa-pepper is excited!
April Fool’s Day and Practical Jokes!
If you are out to have the simply best April Fool’s Day ever, or if your practical joke repertoire is in need of a boost, you need to check this out!
The basic idea is to unscrew the showerhead, place a bouillon cube in the pipe, and screw the showerhead back on. The next one in the shower gets a delicious treat!
This joke works well will either Chicken or Beef Bouillon Cubes, but it can backfire. As it turns out, folks who wound up suddenly being basted by broth in the shower actually appear many times more attractive to the opposite sex. What could be more attractive than a man who smells like beef or a woman that has the aroma of fresh chicken soup?
Yep, be careful when pulling this joke on your roommate just before your girlfriend or boyfriend comes over. You may not like the end results.

Maybe it would be better to use fish bouillon cubes for April Fool's day. It goes with the fish theme and there is a lesser chance of odor aphrodisiac backfiring.
As for Halloween, I don't think they have made pumpkin broth cubes yet, so I guess beef & chicken are the best we can do. 2019 you say? In that case, we might want to diversify our Steem wallet with some bouillon cubes stock before it goes up.
