imusify Tip-Jar :: Tips for uploading your Music on Steemit

in #howto6 years ago

There are a few things that we have been noticing in people's posts which we think can improve immensely to make the entire experience of a post better...

You may ask, how do you mean, the experience of a post? Well, believe it or not, it is, for example, way more comfortable to read a sentence when it has periods (.), or commas (,).or exclamation points. This guides the reader properly through your story and sets the tone of what you want to convey.

Now, what we want to talk about is not just the syntax of a post, but rather we want to give musicians some guidelines when it comes to uploading their newest creation to make it more accessible for the reader/listener to enjoy music even more.

We have noticed these things over the last couple of weeks, so here we are trying to make it better for anyone.

1. Use dApps

@dtube, @dsound and @dlive are amazing platforms built on top of the Steem Blockchain to showcase the musician's music even better. More than that , these great initiatives have quite some SP to reward their users for using these apps. This means, that when you upload your content to one of these and if they find your contribution valuable, you can recieve a sweet upvote.

Useful information
@dlive claims not to take any cuts for using the platform.
@dtube takes 25% of the author rewards to pay for their IPFS storage.
@dsound also takes 25% of the author rewards.

2. Use YouTube, SoundCloud or other alternatives as well

We've seen many people uploading their content to @dtube, @dsound or @dlive, which is really great! The use of dApps is really convenient and we only want to support it - after all, they have a big stake and receiving an upvote from their accounts can significantly bump up your rewards.

Unfortunately, these dApps do not always work in terms of actually playing the songs. As a musician, you want people to listen to your music, however that will be hard if the video or file refuses to play.

Therefore, make sure you do not only upload your music to one of the dApps, but make sure you have a working backup too such as YouTube, Vimeo or SoundCloud! This way, even when the dApps refuse to play, your music can still be enjoyed.

3. Tell us more about your content

Of course, listening to your own music is great. However, what is even better is to be able to peek into the musician's life and get to know them. After all, Steemit is considered the newest social media avenue to explore just this.

Give your listeners something to discuss or let them enter your world by telling them something about your content, for example: I covered this song because -, I wrote this song when -, I decided to do this because -, I've been practising to play this for awhile and now I am ready to show you what I am capable off-, etcetera. If you engage more with your readers, they will engage back with you.

Also, we've found a convenient tool called SPECTACLES to figure out who's loyally been voting for you and you might not even have noticed it!

4. Show us your face in the thumbnail

When you're using one of the dApps, the thumbnail of your post will be the thumbnail of your video. However, make sure this includes your face and preferably your instrument!

We've seen a lot of people use, for example, the #openmic thumbnail image as their header - sure, nothing is wrong with that - but to make the post more you, we definitely recommend to upload a picture of you and your instrument with a smile!

Great write up and some solid tips! I should upload my videos to dtube as well as youtube, where I generally start. Fantastic post. :)

We hope it was as hopeful as we intended to be! And yes, for sure. Why not try to get that extra upvote from their platform too?!

Cheers <3

Well done guys that was some pretty good job :)
You are right to advise artist to add a Youtube link as a backup, however sometimes some content is exclusive to a Dapp, and each platforms will reward you for it !(not always)

The content usually disappear off the IPFS on dsound and dtube after 7days, however you can store it on your personnal node, it's quite easy to set up with IPFS desktop, but be careful it will use tons of bandwidth ,especially if you have more than a 100 songs/videos stored!
@dlive content is supposed to stay forever, but I am sure it gets difficult to access once the traffic cease on one video

Thanks for the kind words!

Ah, I see! That's useful to know aswell - it would be great then if those dApps then also actually work.

however you can store it on your personnal node, it's quite easy to set up with IPFS desktop, but be careful it will use tons of bandwidth

This then, sounds quite complicated for the simple user. What would you suggest in this case?
