EARN THAT 'FOLLOW'! Tips for New Steemians
Introduce your content, by introducing YOU.
I came across @lykaabedes's post earlier, asking for tips on how to increase followers. I may not be an expert, but I'm sharing my thoughts anyways. Here it goes.
For those who have just on-boarded the platform, I would say create a few posts to show any page visitor what type of content they would expect from you. Will you be doing lifestyle blogging? Travels, food, entertainment etc? Are you into music, poetry or art? Parenting or psychology?
Blog about your interests and what makes you happy, and I'm sure your enthusiasm will translate on your writing.
Expect though, that your first few post will not earn, as you still have a limited audience. Few new users hit gold and earn big early, but that is not the case for most.
CREATE posts that will tell people what you are all about, EXPECT not to earn big at first, then START engaging through comments on other user's content.
See how it is said "ENGAGE THROUGH COMMENTS" and not just merely "COMMENT ON OTHER POSTS"? Because the key here is ENGAGEMENT. Make sure to leave a positive impression with your insights. Take the time to actually read the content and share relevant views. The author would surely appreciate that.
When you catch their attention through your views, what ideally happens next is that intrigued, they will check your page. YOUR FIRST FEW POSTS WILL SERVE AS YOUR ADVERTISEMENT, can be the deal-breaker on that decision to follow you or not. This is your motivation for creating quality content without earning much at first.
Just be mindful of this- on comments, most of users who had been on steemit long do not appreciate a 'follow me/follow you approach', for fellow minnows though in general it's alright I suppose, as you are both on the journey to building your audience.
Other venues to engage with the community- via discord and steemit chat. These are great venues to connect with many users at the same time. There are communities that builds each other up, and will be quite happy to share their experiences and knowledge, not just on steemit, but with any imaginable field.
Joining contests may help too, as you'd normally get to interact with people of the same interest.
Basically, you're looking for ways to introduce your content, by introducing YOU.
Edited to fit in the follower/following scene:
You can't make someone be ready for what you're ready for, but you're also not obligated to wait around for them to make up their minds. You can't push someone to make time for YOUR POSTS if they'd rather READ other people's, but you may also opt not to give them all your free time either. You can't force someone to feel as strongly for you, OR YOUR CONTENT, as you do for them, OR THEIR WORK, and you're also not in a position to tell them how they should feel. You can't convince someone that YOUR WORK IS THE best, but you're also entitled not to waste your time on a person who doesn't see potential in you, OR THOSE YOU DON'T SEE POTENTIAL WITH. You can't expect STEEMIANS to treat you better just because you confessed your feelings ON STEEMIT, but you're also not meant to settle for CONTENT CREATORS who wouldn't put in the same amount of effort you would... Let go and move on. Don't you ever let UPVOTES AND REWARDS determine what your value is. Know your value, and be valued.

Yay! Will check out your page and posts. And thank you for your words, kind affirmation :)
Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by dreamiely from the Minnow Support Project. Excellent advice. Consistency is, in my opinion, the greatest asset for someone to gain followers. If you post around the same time every day you will naturally be posting exactly when your audience is already online!
Another great option is to get involved with a community. A lot of people find friends and inspiration on steemit.chat, whaleshares discord or PAL just to name a few!

Yay thanks! Messaged you on discord.
Agree on this- If you post around the same time every day you will naturally be posting exactly when your audience is already online!

Yay! Welcome to steemit @doloresreyes! Had a quick peek at your page, seems you haven't gotten started with writing your stuff yet. Looking forward to it. And you have a nice number of followers already! Won't be long before you'll be making posts advising other users, including myself, on your thoughts about steemit, or about anything for that matter.
Enjoy your journey and goodluck! ^_^
Good points to point out. Great advice.
I especially like that part because the main driving point of me coming into steemit is my need for an avenue that would not restrict my writing into a conventional tone and limit my growth. Thank you for the tips :)
Always happy to help in anyway. Yeah, steemit is actually a very good venue to express yourself thru writing, as I'm certain there are others here who shares your interest. May it be music, arts, literature, food, investing, parenting, travel, or simpy doing random musings, there is always an audience for you! That's one of the greatest beauty of this platform ^_^
Still trying to find my niche but I know I'll get there eventually :)
That's the spirit!
Ang galing magEnglish ni tita @dreamiely.
Ay alamoyan! Kaya sa kin ka magmana ha? Haha
Holy crap, I just realized how many followers you have. And the fact that we both joined at about the same time.
Would you mind my asking the secret to your success?
I actually do follow all of the advice in this post. Have been doing so for quite a while.
I'm stuck at just under two hundred followers.
Ahm... because I'm a girl? Haha, kidding. Seriously though, you may have noticed too the number of users I'm following? Here's my two-month old post explaining why.
https://steemit.com/community/@dreamiely/why-building-a-following-is-equally-important
Ah, I don't think I could handle following that many people. I have to regularly trim down how many people I follow.
Would it be sleazy to follow a bunch of people, then just unfollow the ones I don't enjoy say, once a week or something?
If all else fails, do the sympathy vote!!! I've added you my friend!!!
