HowTo Buy Crypto – Part 6: CEX•IO

CEX·IO.jpg

Also on the European side of the Atlantic, London based CEX•IO is another very nice way to enter crypto. The CEX•IO website is first class, as are the services showcased, with highlights perhaps being that it's UK registered and serves “99% countries around the globe”. Originally also known as Ghash.io, the famous cloud mining company, CEX•IO is now solely engaged in the business of operating a crypto exchange, offering BTC, ETH, BCH, DASH and ZEC pairing against the USD, GBP, or EUR, and, of course, those same Alts with BTC, as well as a small assortment of additional pairings, with the RUP being one of those.

International bank wires are accepted from just about anywhere in the world in USD, EUR, RUP or GBP. SEPA is also accepted from the European Union, and MasterCard or VISA, both from practically anywhere in the world, round off established forms of deposit or withdrawal. All the details on all their fees are available in their fee schedule, and, as you’ll notice, there are volume discounts to make already decent pricing even better.

Security starts with 2FA user login and extends to a tough AML/KYC Policy and very strict commitment to best practice ANTI-FRAUD POLICY.

As would be expected, being FINCEN registered and applying KYC best practices, full ID verification is required, and they have put together a nice Identity Verification Guide to make that task as easy as possible. There are 4 verification levels, all listed on their Limits and Commissions page, with deposit and withdrawal limits for each. They also have a Card Verification Guide to help with the process of linking your credit card.

Check out their FAQ for more answers to your questions – it’s another one of the fine examples out there, like CEX·IO itself.

@cryptographic,
This is what I was looking for! Actually I can recommend CEX.IO services! I did more than 200 Cash deposits via VISA debit card and made success!

Once I had a bad experience as their system said I added funds and deducted from the bank account! But that funds didn't visible in my CEX.IO account! So, I contacted their support team and bank! At the end they refunded my money! So, I can recommend their service as a professional exchanges!

CEX.IO is the best method to my country to add funds to buy crypto! Coinbase is not functioning here! We need a passport to create an account in CEX.IO and verification process is little bit complex but it's speedy than most of other crypto exchanges.

But their support system is not very accurate! It takes time but they definitely response at the end! Their Fees are little bit higher than other exchanges and if we buy crypto they sell it in higher price than normal market price as well! (They keep their margin like $500+ additional for BTC) For me it's not worthy! Therefore, I am thinking about moving out of CEX.IO!

Great review about CEX.IO and I didn't know it was GHash.io before! Excellent article!

Cheers~

You do have the ability to make deposits with credit/debit cards and then trade at market price, correct?

@cryptographic - Sir all my crypto investments bought by Cex exchange... One of the local partner who had verified Cex account helped me to bought BitCoins... I think now they are not allowing new registrations... Few weeks ago I tried but failed... They asked a lot of photography at the verification process & that local partner said, buy crypto (BitCoins) in trading platform of Cex is profitable Sir... I think Cex is the best exchange to buy & sell crypto coins... Few months back @timcliff the famous witness tried to add STEEM to Cex services... I think it's not yet accomplished, but it's a good thought Sir...
Sir here I'm sharing few details of Cex from internet search Sir... Nice you decided to discuss about Cex.IO too Sir... Thank you...

Strengths of CEX

  • Cex has one of the best ranges of available features while guaranteeing an outstanding beginner-friendly experience. The site is surprisingly easy to use – yet offers a many services, trading pairs, security features, and deposit methods.
  • Supports deposits made with credit cards from a majority of countries. When compared to Coinbase, Cex accepts credit cards from significantly more countries.
  • Offers margin trading on BTC/USD, BTC/EUR, ETH/BTC and ETH/USD pairs with good loss-protection tools. Cex competitors such as Bitstamp or Coinbase have no margin trading.
  • Executes orders through fill-or-kill (FOK), making transactions faster and easier for beginners. Even advanced trading platforms like Kraken do not yet offer FOK orders to their users.
  • Includes a mobile application. The android app has received 100 thousand downloads from GooglePlay.
  • Offers an API for 3rd party developers to build customized tools. Most of the leading crypto exchanges are now seeing the additional revenue advantages of opening and API to 3rd party developers.
  • Simple sign-up via social media accounts: users can register using their Facebook, GoogleID, VK, and Github logins.
  • New trending altcoins are actively being added for trading. Most recently we have seen the addition of Zcash and Dash, two increasingly popular privacy-focused cryptocurrencies.
  • Using the affiliate buy/sell page you can easily get recent conversion rates. For example you’ll quickly be able to see how much bitcoin you get for 100, 200, 500, or 1000 usd. I like the transparency offered by CEX – especially compared to other exchanges where you only see the rates after you have signed up.
  • No known security breaches of customer funds to date. Cex has fared well while other large exchanges like Coinbase, Poloniex, Bitstamp, and Bitfinex have all experienced relatively severe thefts (though in most cases users were refunded).

Weaknesses of CEX

  • Delays in card verification sometimes last weeks. Supposedly this was due to an influx of new users. We are indeed seeing reports of the delays clearing up progressively.
  • Unresponsive customer support. Same as above, though the operators released a statement assuring the community that extra support staff were being recruited & trained.
  • Currently supports only seven cryptocurrencies, a small number in comparison to other leading exchanges like Bitfinex or Bittrex. However this is slightly more than Coinbase and roughly the same as Bitstamp.
  • Some countries are not supported with credit card and wire transfer payments. Alternatives such as Coinmama support more countries for Visa/Mastercard deposits. The Localbitcoins p2p exchnage will work in every country.
  • Buggy mobile application offers only a few of the services accessible through the website. Justifiably the app only received a 3 out of 5 rating on the Play store.
  • While the site does its very best to accommodate beginner bitcoiners. I feel that unfamiliar users are taken advantage of through slightly higher fees. Such is also the case on Coinbase and Coinmama. Sites like Kraken or Gdax are nowhere near as easy to use, yet offer the lowest fees to everyone.

Glad to hear that it has worked for you.

BTW, you really should post the links to what you repost . . . to acknowledge the original author, of course.

Yeah it's a fairly good broker/exchange, especially for those who have limited options. It's the only one that I've reviewed so far that allows making deposits with credit/debit cards instead of insisting on a direct buy.

Your series is getting interesting. Exposing us to alot of exchanges out there. That's wonderful.

I'd like to add more info to what you have:

  • Based on verification provided, cex.io has four different account levels. Your daily buying limit is dependent on your account level.

There's the basic account, which can buy up to $400 worth of bitcoins per day, and up to $2,000 per month but cannot buy via bank transfer.

There's the verified account, which can buy up to $10,000 worth of bitcoins per day, and up to $100,000 per month and can buy via bank transfer and credit card.

Then there is the individual business and also the corporate account that can buy unlimited amount of bitcoin.

In this guide we are going to show you how to buy bitcoins easily using your credit or debit card at one of the top bitcoin exchanges that now offer ethereum trading too

  1. Provide Information About Your Card
  2.   Selfie Time
  3.  Your CVV Security Code
  4.  Charge Verification
  5.  Getting Local Currency into your CEX.io Account to Trade
  6.  Withdraw Bitcoin to Your Card
  7.  Select balance your wish to withdraw from and the type of withdrawal as Visa or Mastercard

Note :  When I first saw a similar guide I was like OMG… But then I understood that as compared with other exchanges, CEX is undoubtedly the most user-friendly.
Everyone is arguing about high fees… Yes they are high in the buy/sell. But they are lower if you trade. So it’s not really a problem.

Yeah, everyone agrees that it is very user friendly, and you're right about the fees being justifiably a bit higher - everything has its price.

Thanks for reminding everyone of wikipedia. It's another fantastic source.

CEX.IO is very good exchange. You can trust them. Sometimes they are slow, sometimes thay are very quick, If they slow you need to wait for deposits and withrowals too. it's sometimes good sometimes bad. For instance i told my last 2-2 withrowals and deposits. The credit card withrowal arrive after just 1 day but it in the home page it seemed it completed inmediately. (It's usual also they write that its 1-3 days) Bank tranfer withrowal told it will arrive 60 days but arrived after 10 days. First deposit done after 6 days second deposit done after 50 days. They need to upgrade id verifications, as well as the support. BUT IT IS A VERY GOOD EXCHANGE! With mastercard and visa, and high liquidity - just think about the price - dec. 20k usd - one btc - everybody sold their btc because everybody know that the real price of btc could be 20k in the end of 2018 if the market news are not full bad news.

@cryptographic

Thanks for sharing that first hand experience. You know what they say, "shit happens", and it seems to happen in crypto more often than not. The important part is that things eventually get put right.

Thanks for your effort to introduce this great platform of exchange which provide easy and instant service regarding buying and selling cryptocurrencies. They reply to your question and their 24/7 service is convenient. It took me few hours until they verify my account. I have tried to withdraw and transfer money, and it’s work. So, I assume it is going to be safe because the company is legit when I checked on their registration at the companies house website in England.

Thanks for providing us with another first hand experience. Cheers.

CEX.io is a trustworthy website to buy/sell Bitcoin & Ethereum.

The interface is sleek, new, and user-friendly.

They have taken care of security, and the support is pretty amazing- one thing that is not so common in the cryptocurrency industry.

The option to buy Bitcoin using your credit & debit card is one of their most used features, even after the 7% fee. I would love to see them lowering down their fee in the coming days as I think this would get more people excited about their service.

Since they support many countries, it’s an advantage for users from countries where it’s not so easy to buy Bitcoin.

CEX.IO is a solid bitcoin platform that can help you complete an entire money transfer. However, be careful of the fees you’ll pay when buying and selling bitcoin

Thanks for the informative post. According to the information I have, Cex IO is one of the most suitable site to buy coin by using credit card. Now they come up with a rule like that they would get a commission for those who did not use their account for 2 months. As the volume is smaller than other sites, the coin fares are slightly higher.
