Steemit RSS To Twitter In Three Steps

in #how-to5 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians! This post is a little different than what I usually post about but after spending several hours yesterday tinkering with various methods to cross-post my Steemit posts to Twitter I thought to write a short article about it in case anyone else wants to do the same.

First I would like to say that the only reason that I wanted to do such cross-posting is because of an article that I recently read by @anomadsoul about trying to spread awareness of Steem/Steemit by sharing more Steemit posts to Twitter. I highly recommend reading the article here for more information.

The following steps are for automating the process of sharing posts made on Steemit to Twitter. You can always share your posts manually via the Twitter share button found at the bottom of posts on https://steemit.com.

  • Step 1

The first thing you will need is an RSS link for your Steemit blog URL. As an example my Steemit blog URL is: https://steemit.com/@jacobpeacock

You can use sites like https://rss.app/ (or) https://rssteem.org
to generate an RSS from your Steemit blog.

A much easier method that I found was using the RSS feed from eSteem that looks like this:

https://esteem.app/@jacobpeacock/rss

All you have to do is use your account name in the above link to access your RSS feed.

  • Step 2

I am unsure if this step is actually necessary but I used FeedBurner https://www.feedburner.com/ to add some style formatting to my RSS feed (because the eSteem RSS appears to be a raw XML file without styling) and I wanted to ensure compatibility.

'Burning' a feed (RSS) with FeedBurner will generate a new RSS link that will look similar to this: http://feeds.feedburner.com/esteem/ydNQ and it is the link that you will want to use in the next step.

  • Step 3

If you do not have an IFTTT account you will need to create one and connect your Twitter account to it to complete this step.

Go to https://ifttt.com/applets/232845-rss-to-twitter-with-hashtags-and-image and click the 'Connect' button.

NOTE: If you have problems with posting images with the above IFTTT applet try using this applet instead: https://ifttt.com/applets/qiZQC9D7-rss-to-twitter

Then insert the RSS link you generated with FeedBurner where it says 'Feed URL' and click 'Save' and you are finished.

  • Alternate Step 3

A much simpler method for accomplishing the posting aspect detailed in Step 3 is to go to the Dlvr.it website found here: https://dlvrit.com/ setup an account, link your Twitter account to it and use your RSS feed to have it auto-post to Twitter for you.

After doing the above steps the new posts you make on Steemit should now automatically be shared to your Twitter account. As a side note you can also share other people's posts via the same method by using an RSS for their Steemit blog.

Thanks for posting this @jacobpeacock! As a new steemian, a lot of the things folks are suggesting can be a bit daunting. If only I could find a "diy" for all the things I want to do on Steem!!
This makes it much easier for anyone using twitter to be able to help improve steem blockchain by connecting the two! I am not on twitter but i am starting to really pay attention to how I can help grow steem.
Wish me luck connecting my wordpress and my steempress, thankfully it's mostly clicking on a link and pressing a few keystrokes!
