Cost of electric heat in a one bedroom apartment?

in #housing8 years ago

I am looking at an all-electric one bedroom apartment (new construction, about 850 SF) located in Ohio. We have a solid three or four months of 32 degrees F or below temperatures in the winter, and I understand that electric heat is significantly less efficient and therefore most costly than natural gas (which is what I currently have).

Does anyone have any experience with electric heat in an apartment? I'm looking for some insight into potential cost during winter. There is one exterior facing wall of about 30 ft with six or so pretty large windows (think the size of a sliding door each), facing East, second floor unit.

It gets cold in New England and our house is kind of drafty. We got a couple of heaters similar to these and sprinkled them through our house:

They probably are a little less expensive than when we run the AC in the summer as you don't leave them on all the time. The room gets dry if you do.

Interesting data point - thanks for the info. Good to know that your bill doesn't rise above that when using AC in summer using those, but at the same time it sounds like you use those as an ancillary heat source.
