Port Melbourne House

in #house6 years ago

The architects of Pandolfini were confronted with strict guidelines for this project of renovation of a house located on a long and narrow site. The original structure was a hundred-year-old terraced house, it received a thoughtful and complete renovation, including its front facade, while respecting the rules of urban planning of the district.

While the front seems much more traditional, in the back, everything is modern, with a brand new extension that we can not spot from the street. The extension is plated in black zinc with black framed windows. The design required an inclined roof that refers to the surrounding rooflines of nearby homes. A garden connects the old and new parts of the house, while allowing the light to enter inside. Inside, the architects limited the materials used to create a minimalist feel, while selecting the ones that were durable, such as concrete, zinc and American oak. A narrow skylight that covers the width of the house triggers the change in the height of the ceiling.
