Building A Greenhouse To Extend Our Homestead Growing Season
We have a raised herb bed behind the house and are putting up a greenhouse over the top of it to extend our growing season. We are eating a lot from the herbs and vegetables growing in the herb bed so we hope to keep some of it going into the colder winter months.
We are living on an 18 acre homestead and striving to become self sufficient and fully off the grid on a budget. We are raising chickens, hunting, fishing and growing our own food. We process and preserve as much as we can for ourselves in order to live healthier and cheaper.
I am sharing our videos since the day we moved to our new homestead to the present to give you the background story. When you are caught up we will continue to share our daily videos and articles as we make them.
I have a bunch of wood that I picked up from the local lumber yard to build our chicken coop. There are a lot of 2x2s left over which are perfect for the framing of the greenhouse.
I got out the framing nailer and got to work. The process is time consuming though using recycled lumber because I have to hand sort though all the pieces in order to find something that works.
The walls are going to be 5 feet high and the roof will peak at 8 feet high. This will give us plenty of room to move around inside.
I managed to get the walls up pretty well though and then when I got to the roof I had to think about it a bit. I am letting the wood lead me as I sort though what I have.
I ended up with a 12 foot long beam supported by three posts. The posts will take the weight from the winter snow and distribute it to the ground. There are treated 4x4s already in place which I had left there. This gives the entire structure support and keeps it off the ground. This will also extend the life of the wood.
When I got to the rafters I was pretty exhausted though and called it a day.

I don't understand why you continue to post old content from months ago when the only people watching are those of us you invited from your YouTube channel over to Steemit. Every time you post something here people complain its a re-run which is valid argument. Have you noticed virtually all of the commenters on your blog are from people you have past contact with?
The truth is the only reason I come to your blog is to read the funny posts from those commenting on your blog. I don't even read your blogs because they're just a cut-and-paste of your YouTube channel.

@bladefire, The little man has the misconception posting the same crap on a different platform may yield different results. Much like repeating the same lies but the problem is the little man can't remember the lies he told yesterday.
thankfully he has left most of the incriminating videos online for anyone to go back and see his promises and lies and deceit. If he started fresh and said our home is fully on grid with the exception of the shacks for woodworking and electronics but I will show you how I will take everything off grid that would be believable. But what he did was set up his solar system to operate the shacks and for the camera claimed to be using flashlights in the house. Noboby believes he denies his wife with a newborn child the ability to use the convieniences that came with the trailer and tiny house. His videos show them using them and still claiming 95% off grid. He knows enough to see that the premise of his channel is self sufficiency and off grid living but the videos show otherwise. Its no wonder people have been calling him out on each lie and now don't believe a word he says

He still had all her things and food weeks later. We think she was taken to the woods and killed. Poor Joy the beagle.

Oh the dead chicken. In the video he noticed it was dead but still kept recording as the dead chicken laid there with no concern. But then again its the same one who laughed over deer blood all over his rug. Concerning since hes a husband and dad that he has no remorse over dead animals.
troy has allowed raccoons and bad living conditions with poor or no protection kill so many chickens we have lost count. He only cares about those cats shedding hair in the house and all other animals are destined for starvation or death from neglect.

I've noticed that since day one on the dump in NY. He sterilizes nothing and washes things in ditch water. I asked about his cleanliness when he was cooking maple syrup and he wouldn't answer. Finally he said it was ok since they don't sell any of it.

I would be one of the first to thank him for four years serving his country if that service wasn't so shrouded in mystery. I know many that served their country, one with missing limbs, and all of them are proud of their service. One my friends has his DD414 framed right next to two purple heart medals.

Sure, at one point they planted herbs there.
However in the spirit of Reid's Standard Operating Procedures of being a self imposed poverty stricken YT star, he decided to build this monstracity using crap lumber.
Then he moved other potted plants into this unfinished structure After the growing season.
He reinstalled the rafter boards with newer refuse, threw up some plywood for a ruuf,
then he stopped filming the project.
Reid is always hoping and praying and striving, But
history has shown he never finishes anything.
Now, Reid has stopped his "daily videos" because as he wrote on steemit recently, "YouTube is tanking".
But I digress, why does Reid keep building theses so called greenhouses thinking he can grow food year round in the northern winter climate?
He thinks people want to see him make a fool of himself. Any energy and time spent on the greenhouse and steemit are a waste when he has important tasks to finish and prepare for the harsh winter ahead.
And as importantly, what permits did he apply for and what inspections took place to certify his "greenhouse" met the county/township regulations for such structures?? No "wheels" allowed here t-beggar!!!
Why don't you show everyone what your "greenhouse" looks like today, Troy Reid? Two months after starting this unfinished project and your greenhouse still is not done. It still does not have plastic on the outside. All it is is a bunch of herbs frozen because you were too busy playing in your electronics shed with your perpetual motion machine.
