Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here’s the info.

@mericanhomestead posted a video this morning about the purchased system they use to make CS and I was inspired to "Show You Mine".

Here's a Link to the video from @mericanhomestead

I'm not trying to compete, I just don't have that kind of money.

I based this system off of instructions that no longer appear to be on the internet (hmm, I wonder why?)

Making CS is simply a process of electrolysis; you pass an electrical current through silver that is suspended in distilled water and tiny particles of silver then become suspended in the water (that's the Colloidal part).

I can produce a quart of roughly 10ppm silver water in about 4 hours with this.

I use two 1 oz Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Dollars for the Silver, they are .9999 pure. I have purchased a few locally and have also gotten them from silver.com (6/12/2017 1oz Canadian Silver Maple Leafs are $18.91 at silver.com) (I have no affiliation with the web site.)

I will describe this in several posts, it's not complicated, just a lot of steps (sorry, I don't have the time and resources (i.e. skills) to properly edit videos.

The main component of this setup is the power supply.
power.jpg
This is a power adapter for an HP Printer. (Also shown in the photo is a simple mechanical timer with the removable pins to turn power on & off.)

The particular model number on this unit is 0957-2286 but the important thing is that the output is 30V DC @ 333mA (anywhere up to about 500mA will work too).

I'm including a link to Amazon at the bottom of this post.

Update I've also purchased several of these from thrift stores for a couple dollars each. The only problem is trying to read what the output voltage and amperage is on the back. The writing is tiny.

The info I originally used (the info that's since disappeared) pointed out that 30V is the ideal for electrolysis of silver particles.

Battery rigs using silver wire and three 9V batteries suffer from the very fast drop in voltage from the batteries.

Clip the connector off the end of the power supply that ordinarily plugs into the printer (the *little wires), separate the 2 wires strip off about 3/4" of the insulation.

Connect an alligator clip to each of the leads, by twisting the wire, I do not put solder anywhere near this. Most solder contains Lead (Pb) and giving yourself Lead poisoning would really defeat the entire purpose.

I'll explain the short pieces of Bamboo skewers in the alligator clips in the "Operating It" post.

Next up... Part 2 The Bubbler
