Busy Weekend! Gettin’ It Done on the Suburban Homestead
I Was On A Roll!
So, I’ve been doing pretty good, carving out quite a bit of time everyday for Steemit, but for the last couple of days, I’ve had only minutes to read and comment on a couple of posts each day. But a perfect storm of great weather, a few spare dollars and enough time to get a few things done, we were so busy around here!
The Chicken Yard
Several weeks ago, my husband took a weeks worth of vacation to try and get a few things done around here. Well, the weather didn’t care that he needeed to be outside working, so he only had a couple days to work, and spent the rest of his vacation relaxing while it rained and froze and iced. Mixed blessing?
This is the chicken yard that was later craptasticly smashed when we had our tree cut down.We planned on upgrading it anyway.
It’s kind of hard to see, but you can see the two green t-posts that served as corners for the 2x4 fence wire around the chicken yard.
Here’s the new improved version.
The Garden
We also got mushroom dirt added to the garden soil and a good thick layer of straw mulch on top.
The Greenhouse
While Adam and Brendan, my husband and son, were working on the chicken yard, I was busy getting my greenhouse up and my seedlings moved out of the lab.
So, that’s what’s been going on here, while spring stopped by for a visit. It looks like we’ve got another day of nice weather and then winter comes back for its short hiatus for another little while.

Thanks! It’s been a while since the weather would allow us to be produtive, and it is so great!
I need to take a break and get some productive things done too! Sorting out automating upvotes at the moment, but I'll miss reading too.
I just really like reading about what everyone’s doing! It would help if everyone would just text me a sentence or two about what’s going on in their days so I can stay caught up with everyone’s happenings! lol
My sentence for the day: collecting food for animals and feeding people.
Now just repeat and I'm covered for the year! Lol

That's some fun stuff!! Awesome progress! Your garden area looks great. Do you grow mushrooms in the mushroom dirt? Or is it there to enrich the soil?
It’s just to enrich the soil. It comes from a big mushroom farm about 30 minutes away. It adds some nutrients and a whole lotta organic matter to the dirt.
Great new chicken run and the greenhouse will be a sweet addition to the garden systems. Y'all have gotten a LOT done!
We’ve still got a lot to do, but it does feel good to have gotten so far over the weekend!
i took a day off from work yesterday and got a few things done - thankfully the weather turned sunny and warm after about 11am. it's tough to be outside when the weather isn't cooperating with you! it's feels like you've just got a big middle finger in front of your face, right?! :P

Tomorrow’s gonna be another great day for being outside. But I can’t decide what to dooooo!!!! Mushroom hunting or get some cool weather crops into the ground..... Ugh! Decisions!
when i get to those decisions, i flip a coin. then, if i'm disappointed in the outcome, i do the other thing ;)
