Fishing for Rainbow Trout in Pristine Waters in Arkansas | Gar, Spring Flowers, Beavers & More... Beauty!!

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

Don't you love those days where you're out & about in the beauty of nature?!

Not to mention, catching fish!!

Spring is such an incredible time to begin shrugging off the dormancy of winter.

That means FISHING!

And taking in the beauty of the earth!

During winter, as the animals show us, we're encouraged to hunker down, go within, rest, nourish, eat a lot and cozy up, generally.

As the sun returns in greater amounts daily, we feel like going outside as the air warms and flowers begin to show!

Today we went fishing with some good friends of ours in Arkansas' Norfork River for some Rainbow Trout.

It was a beautiful day. The river was calling our names.

This area of the Norfork River in Arkansas is right after the dam. It's world-famous for the size of the trout- some over 30 lbs! Obviously, we didn't have that type of catch today, but it was fun!!

As was seeing a Gar upclose for the first time! Gar is an interesting Ozark waterways specie that, to be honest, frightens me a little!

I can't imagine why I'd be afraid...

Must be the teeth or something...

Also, the violets are up!

And obvious signs of our Beaver friends...

Signs of life waking up are everywhere if you only take a look!

Hello! Liked your blog, upvoted and followed to see more!

I really enjoyed all your photos and story! That picture of y'all with the gar is really cute, your smile is awfully happy for not liking gar so much :))) And what lovely close ups of the violets and rainbow trout!! It sounds like a really delightful day close to nature <3

So glad you enjoyed it, we did too! Thats actually our friends' smile, you shoulda seen our faces ;) It was certainly a blessing.

Oh gosh, I thought that your friends took a pic of you guys! LOL.

Excellent! I've got to get back out on the river soon.

right on! it's getting warmer and warmer! it's time :D

What a great way to spend the day! I'd freak out if I caught a gar. They're in the Jacks Fork River too and they scare me when I'm in my kayak. I once went down a narrow and fast area while they were spawning...several jumped at me! I'm seriously not a big fan of gar. I can't even swim in deep areas of the river for fear of something like that touching me. No thanks! Haha!

omg! jumped at you?! I totally feel you on that! I think they're totally scary and if I ever catch one, i will holler at a close friend to help take it off!!

I can't even swim in deep areas of the river for fear of something like that touching me

I am the same way!! hahah!

Your posts always make me smile. Thanks for the lift to my day. I look forward to seeing more.

aw you're so sweet & always bring a boost to my day <3!!

oh my those teeth! That is frightening. So am I to correct to think you are having trout for dinner? Smoked perhaps? Beautiful, relaxing adventure for the four of you. Great post

hehehe trout for dinner! oven baked! <3 had a fun weekend. more to come ;)

Those guys are quite tasty. I wonder if you ended up cooking them, haha.

for sure! baked and fried!

Wow, I thought that was a huge trout then realized it was an alligator gar, least thats what we call them.
Man I haven't been trout fishing in a long time. We always went in these little back mountain creeks and never saw any that big, at least very very rarely. Great catch.

hehe, and that's a small gar. Ya trout fishing is a really fun time. This area is known for the large trout, but any fishing is fun fishing.

wow nice fishing , I love fishing :)

Arkansas is one of my favorite states (and I’ve been to all 50). I spent a glorious week once on the Buffalo River.

We've yet to explore much of the Buffalo River, but will have to do a trip there. We're about 50 Miles north of the border, and are just getting to explore more of the state. Thanks for sharing.
