I have chosen a life married to the Earth. One where I am directly responsible for meeting many of the needs of my family. This life I live as a homesteader is not for everyone, but I know it's the right lifestyle for me.

Empowerment and Freedom are Paramount
I hold these tenants strongly, and deeply value them. The ethics of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share (trio of permaculture ethics) guide my decisions and path in life. I live this life because I believe in a better future. I believe there's more to living than what the mainstream culture offered me, so I opted out. I choose to live off grid and build up the homestead I inhabit. Slowly but surely systems fall into place that meet our family's needs and will also provide for the needs of others.

In a culture that is obsessed with material goods, entertainment and celebrities while simultaneously ignoring that the foundations and sources of energy that fuel it are inherently destructive and toxic, I am charting another path.
Why do I homestead?
I am living this way because I am called to to usher in alternatives to the destructive capitalistic paradigm of greed and rampant consumption that is divorced form the Earth, the very source of life. We can do better than we currently are doing, and while this isn't the choice for everyone, homesteading seems like the best way to live out my values and create something meaningful in the world. I hope that our efforts will support the inspiration, education and empowerment of others seeking options.

Perennial agriculture offers amazing potential for truly sustainable food production. I am committed to the process of establishing perennial food and medicine systems on the land I steward.
I homestead because it is what I am on Earth to do
I believe we are all born with a set of gifts, skills and leanings. We are in sync when our life is about honoring and honing these inherent abilities and propensities. Homesteading requires a great deal of creativity, ingenuity, hard work, strong morals and MUST be fueled by passion. I would say this life suites me quite well. In fact there's no other life that I'd rather be living.

Living the dream :) I love that you have made the leap of faith to go all in with homesteading. Passion is necessary in all successful endeavors. Me, I have owned my own business with my wife for the last 9 years. It is something I always wanted to do. It has provided us with a degree of empowerment and freedom. Plus it has provided for my family and hopefully given my boys the freedom to do what they want in life. What they are passionate about. We are now talking about selling and moving on to our next thing. Our next dream.
A leap of faith that is so much more doable now than if I were to wait 30 years. Plenty of time to learn from the many mistakes along the way.

I am finally raising most of my own food, something I wanted to know how to do since my late 20's. I did not dream of a homestead, but of having my own stable. I did that for many years, until I was too ill to continue. So I let that dream go.
Now my raison d'etre is learning as much about raising organic nutrient dense food from healthy balanced soil as I can. And then passing on what I've learned to others so they may have the best life possible also.
There are a lot of associated components to working a homestead farm, like observing wildlife, observing how nature works, raising animals in as natural a way as they were meant to live, etc.
Every day is a new learning experience...

I am living out my dreams by raising my kids. They are almost grown up. My youngest is going to be 14 in a month. Last 5 years of Motherhood happening here. I am learning about who I am right now, healing, and creating a plan of my life after motherhood. Untangling the 'destructive capitalistic paradigm' of what I think is me vs. who I am. Glad you love the setting, it's a common view here at home. We spend a lot of time in this gazebo area. It's like our outdoor living room. The almond in the background is one of the healthiest trees we put in last fall and am stoked to get a few more going.
