Kiara’s Promise to the Steemit Homesteading Community

I’m all about helping the #homesteading community here on Steemit. For the past few days, I’ve been reporting more spam and plagiarism than I have been writing my own articles. It’s SO FRUSTRATING. That’s why seeing “PAPA’S PLANS FOR THE STEEMIT HOMESTEADING COMMUNITY” was incredibly encouraging!

As he said,

“By each of us doing what we can to help others within the steemit community, we can all create a better platform and make this an even more incredible, inviting, and amazing community for us all to be a part of.”

That’s why I am going to share with you my own plans for the homesteading community and also promise you something very important… and I encourage you all to do the same. To be honest, this article has been a long time coming, but I feel that today is the day.

First, how can I make the Steemit community (#homesteading specifically) better?

The Weekly Homesteading Newsletter

I can continue with the publication of the WHN every Sunday. The goal of the Weekly Homesteading Newsletter is to increase awareness and support of the Steemit homesteading community! It showcases a variety of articles from different authors to make sure none slip through the cracks of frequent publishing and lengthy news feeds!

Homesteading Challenge

I can continue the homesteading challenges. The goal of this challenge is to unite the Steemit homesteading community with an invigorating contest every few weeks! It also provides inspiration for quality articles and a small financial reward for the winner!

Seed Exchange

I do not have my own homestead at the moment but I am blessed to have communal family property to utilize. Therefore, I plan on traversing the 100+ acres this spring (and the DNR land next door, shhhh) in order to wild forage seeds and seedlings. I will save some of them for future planting myself and share the rest with fellow Steemit homesteaders.

Mentor Program / Buddy System

The retention rate for the homesteading community is abysmal. I would like the community to continue to grow by keeping new Steemians involved. Even though the idea of a mentor program / buddy system has been tossed around and contemplated, it is hard to implement on a large scale. So until we figure out a long term solution, I will take it upon myself to help welcome the new homesteaders and try to check in with them if they disappear.

Kiara’s Promise

Now I want to promise each and every one of you something very important.

I promise to never knowingly participate in spam or plagiarism.
I promise to cite my sources, including photography, to the best of my knowledge.
I promise to avoid shameless self-promotion and useless copy/paste comments.

And from now on, I promise to hold others to the same standard!

I promise to partner closely with @steemcleaners in order to pinpoint and eradicate abuse on Steemit.
I promise to report all wrongdoings I notice using this linkdrop form.
I promise to research each account for any forms of abuse before supporting them by following and upvoting.
I promise to share the appropriate resources in order to prevent further abuse, such as the FAQ page and the SteemitAbuse chat channel.
I promise to continue to promote a spam free, polite, and honest Steemit platform in every conceivable way that I can.

I urge you all to commit yourselves to this endeavor as well. It will take all of use to keep Steemit clean from abuse and continually growing. The homesteading community is like a family to me and I will do everything in my power to continue to make it a better place to be!

How can you make the #homesteading community a better place?

Thank you for your promises Kiara. I love the newsletters and the challenges, so I really appreciate you taking that time out to do them. Your promises have also made me think and I hope to try and be more aware now.

very good! If you ever need any help with the homesteading community on Steemit please let me know! I have been recruiting homesteading YouTubers and Facebookers to Steemit via my Facebook group. We are having very good turnout here on Steemit!

Totally agree on all points. Thank you for your various initiatives in the homesteading community.

The mentor/buddy idea is something I am particularly keen on to help improve retention rates.

I wonder if we can use the HomesteadersSlackers group as a platform to try out some ideas on this? It is there in an embryo state already.

I am against spamming and plagiarism too as I once had a bad experience from these spammers. Thanks for your effort and as a Steemian, I'll also try my best to contribute to help the community too.

Nice post @kiaraantonoviche keep steeming

Ironic that you post a copy/paste comment on this article specifically @sid9999. Please note that copy/paste comments such as this are considered comment spam and can be flagged and reported to @steemcleaners.

Bro you can check I am not copy /pasting any of the comments I read article and based on the thing which I like in the article I post the comment fella if you think I blindly copy paste a comment you can mute me but if I feel good then I comment on that article and try to motivate the writer by giving good feedback friend.Bro just don't flag anybody's comments blondly because it really affects their analytics you can see my no comments are same I felt your post was good so I commented on that but I think I am wrong Steemit is all about not telling people that you like their post otherwise they flag you please think twice before flagging anyone now you can think about this too as copy paste .

If you truly do comment a genuine response, that's great and keep it up @sid9999! I just noticed many of your comments were along the lines of "nice post, keep steeming."

Nothing is really specific in these comments which lead me to think this. I would suggest making more specific comments. Best of luck!

Bro see I read many post so how can a person make so many comments. ...genuinely if you trust me you can unflag my comment its your choice I really loved your post but hence forth I'll try not express my feelings for your post .

It's alright if you comment or express your feelings, I appreciate the feedback. I was just making sure it was a genuine comment and not a generic automated response. Thanks

Bro but i received a reply from steem cleaners and now my earning and power has gone down for no reason do you find any fault but now steemcleaners and cheetah would flag my next article for no reason now what can I do .You made a genuine user pay price for no reason.I am saying this genuinely some people just make use for their power in a bad way the same happened with me my analytics went down for just saying you wrote good post ...Really on steem there is no justice done

You should have asked and confirmed before flagging your one wrong move made my work of making my analysis grow in vain really I am deeply hurt by you sir .

You do a great disservice to your Homesteading community by carelessly and unjustly flagging content that is NOT spam and is NOT plagiarized. I think you just want to have more power and control within that community. No wonder your community has abysmal retention rates!

I am a fresh minnow on Steemit. I posted a link to my YouTube playlist entitled “Farming” (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvWcx85VUF14dOkV1NmhYgkfHbPsSl7Vw ). The videos contained in the playlist are not my creations, but the PLAYLIST is! It is a carefully curated playlist. This playlist contains (as of today) 170 videos. I have watched each and every one of those 170 videos in its entirety at least once before including it in my playlist. If you think that is not a contribution worthy of respect, then it won’t be much trouble for you to watch them ALL before you take a very NEGATIVE action that will be harmful to your community.

Here is a link to my actual Steemit post >>> https://steemit.com/video/@osopapa/farming-a-playlist-of-videos-about-farming-and-agriculture .

I am new to Steemit, but it is clear to me that flag votes should be used judiciously and with great care. Flagging wars are detrimental to the whole community. But I will tell you one thing: Even though I am very interested in homesteading, now I wouldn’t touch your “Homesteading” community with a 10-foot pole! Have a nice life!

The only reason this was flagged is because it is frowned upon in the community to post any content that does not have any semblance of your personal input - this is seen as copying and pasting someone else's video. If you wanted to share your playlist of carefully chosen videos, I would suggest simply adding your opinion of the video, or even a sentence that says "This video by so-and-so is really great." It's important to clarify the author/creator of any content that is not specifically yours. I'm sorry you feel alienated but I am trying my best to help Steemit, not hurt it. If you disagree, I apologize. If you comment on your article with the name of the author/creator who originally posted the video, I will immediately remove my flag.

You still don't seem to understand (maybe there is a language issue involved) that this post is about my playlist of 170 videos (plural), not a single video (singular). There are over 12 hours of videos in this playlist, all about some aspect of farming. I have been gathering these videos into this playlist for the last five years! I have watched each and every one of these videos in its entirety (many of them more than once) to make sure that I wanted to include them in the playlist. And you say there is no semblance of my personal input? Once again, I challenge YOU to watch all 170 of these videos and see if you feel that you have made any personal input into the project.

Maybe it didn't occur to you that I might use a different username on YouTube than I use on Steemit. On Steemit, I am known as "OsoPapa," but on YouTube, I am "MrASteele4."

Just to clarify, I am not the creator of the individual videos, but I AM the creator of the PLAYLIST! If you would click the "alternate link" so that you could see the contents of the playlist, you could also see that I have given full credit to the actual creators on the 170 individual videos.

I haven't done it yet, but, as you suggested, I plan to add a comment to my post clarifying my role as the creator of the playlist.

I don't expect you to remove your flag. In fact, I consider it a valuable lesson learned. Among the lessons I have learned from this are:

  1. The Steemit video player only shows the first video in a playlist, then stops.
  2. The Steemit video player does not show the author and credits information that is included with every YouTube video when you watch it on the YouTube player (even when that video is part of a larger playlist), which I find a little surprising for a platform that is supposedly so hellbent on avoiding plagiarism.
  3. That I need to be careful in my blog posts to direct the reader to the YouTube player so that he or she can see all the credits.
  4. That I need to go all out in my blog posts to explain to trigger-happy flaggers why my post is NOT plagiarism.
  5. That I need to avoid like the plague communities within Steemit that are frequented by unfriendly flaggers.

When I joined Steemit, I expected to make friends, not enemies, but it has become obvious that some Steemers don't feel the same way I do. I will follow you just to keep an eye on you, and you are welcome to follow me. I don't want to be someone's enemy unless I am committed to being a really good enemy. So, even though we may not be friends, I don't want to be your enemy either. So don't expect me to interact with you any more after this, and I suggest that you don't attempt to interact with me any more either.

For others who might be reading our exchange, here is a link to my post: https://steemit.com/video/@osopapa/farming-a-playlist-of-videos-about-farming-and-agriculture

I wish you well, and may God bless you.

I did understand your point clearly and thank you for making sure. But again, I simply meant that a playlist created by an individual is still not seen as the individual's property if it is comprised of the work of others. I will remove my flag as I said I would because I keep my word and want what is best for Steemit. I never considered you an enemy either. Best of luck.
