Our soil is more clay, does not grow crops easily, then we have monkeys that rip into them, over the years I tend to use some pots and hope for the best with herbs mainly.
Mulching is the permanent solution for any soil & the right choice of plants to grow according to the micro-climate. There needs to be a fat, thick layer of mulch on the ground!
It's not so easy in my garden either - poor soil & heavy draught - but every year I learn something new to improve the situation with as less hard work as possible!
