Homesteaders - Living Naturally, Newsletter. 31st July 2019
Well July went quick! How have your gardens been growing? Have you been fighting the hot temperatures of mid-summer or the cold of winter?
It could be the low Steem price, but we don't seem to be having many newcomers joining us recently. However, the communities are still going strong and there's lots of good stuff to read. I recommend looking at other posts from the highlighted authors, not just the one linked, because I found it hard to pick just one of their posts from this week from most of them.
Things happening in the community.
The new contest is out for @naturalmedicine. This fortnight share a book which has helped you on your journey with natural healing. and be in with a chance to win a share of over 40 Steem in prizes.
Last week's @ecotrain question of the week has been tied up and you can read some really thought provoking responses on that. Keep an eye out for the next QOTW which should be up soon.
The Homesteaders Co-op has had a face lift and is looking good! Well worth a visit if you haven't been there for a while.
Some highlights of the week
@warfsterveld gives us a little tour around the organically grown garden while giving some fantastic tips on working with nature to get the best production with the least pests.
In this article, @briarch shares tips on raising chicks as they try and bounce back from losing hens to a predator.
Earthships are the being touted as the ultimate in sustainable living, but how do they fair in extreme climates? Living in rural Canada, @wwf is in a good position to answer that question and has written a detailed article on what to expect from the performance of an earthship in such a cold climate.
Over at @gardeningchannel, there are some great tips on pruning and mulching to improve your tomato harvest.
Then to finish I want to squeeze in this quick worm bucket hack from @riverflows. Perfect for those of us who want to worm farm, but struggle in a hot climate which just ends up killing the worm colony come summer.
