The time has come for us to stop thinking and dreaming, and to start eco-building! Just Do It! Watch This!

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

In 2014 , I initiated and led an Earthship self build workshop. I invited people from all over the world to join me, and build a small Earthship labour hut that would accommodate 6 Nepali workers during their stay here. We didn't hire any skilled labour and relied on the people that volunteered to perform the build. As always, synchronicity being what it is, we had a few amazing carpenters and artists and even the kids joined in on this one! They took two weeks off of school and had the time of their lives!

The budget was very low, even for India at $5,000, but we chose a very simple design with the most basic metal sheet as a roof. These arn't very eco-friendly and are terrible insulators and barriers other than for rain, but this was my best option given the budget I had to work with. The Earthship Hut is 18 Ft long x 12 Feet wide and is one simple room with toilets and a washing area outside. The main expense was wood, which we needed for the roof frame, window frames and door frames. Old car tyres were sourced from Coimbatore which is a city 150 Km from Kodaikanal, and costed around $500 USD. Usually tyres are free, and in Europe and many parts of the world you get paid $1 per tyre that you can remove from landfill!

So I am very enthusiastic to let you know that I have just started a diary of this build. This first part is actually a short movie that I made rather than my normal discourse.. which is a nice change. Im learning how to video edit, so this is a great opportunity to learn.

Followed the breadcrumbs and arrived Chez Toi! - can't be bad. You seem like a chap who shares similar values to myself and appear to have rolled up your sleeves and committed fully to your beliefs - bravo! I used to want the big house etc but have come to detest this societal norm; nowadays I prefer my freedom to materialistic shite and am an advocate for living small and under the radar. I loved your post and time lapse. As an artist/writer/lightworker, new to Steemit, I have a lot to say about our choice of lifestyle and the corruption in our world from a spiritual point of view. I have upvoted and followed and invite you to pass by mine if the mood takes you :) Happy doings and editing xox

oh thanks for letting me know sneakyninja!

You're welcome!

Fantastic! I feel there is so much synergy flowing in the universe when we're up to good things! Happy to have found you and your ecotrain.

We lived in Taos, New Mexico (home of the earthships) and lived in one for a short time. So aligned with earth values, and that house stayed so warm.

We'd do one here, but our climate is incredibly humid so we're sticking with slip straw with clay plaster, cob and cordwood. Cheers!

Nice video post ... I like it ... If all worked together, then all the work was done.. @eco-alex

Very nice video..thanks for good post sharing us..resteem it sir

Nowadays, pollution is everywhere. So much worried about this. Animals are fed by so much chemical ingredients, vegetables are grown by green houses,... There isn't much clean and authentic natural resources. How about the next tens tens tens..of the years, how about our next generation.
