🐓 Lots of new life around the CodyPanama Homestead these days 🐣 Life is Good 🐤

🐥 Our Hen's have been hatching eggs for a couple weeks now and new Chicks are arriving daily. 💕 Life is Good

Mother Nature has called and our hens decided it was time to sit on their eggs instead of offering us up Breakfast.

So we have been eating fewer eggs for a couple of weeks. instead, we're getting some early Christmas presents wrapped up in egg shells. 😎

We have a little production line going. After hatching they live at the house with us

After losing 2 chicks to ant attacks! 🐜 Yes they can kill a baby chick fast. We move them to the house for safe keeping till they are a little older. Mother hen's are great for protecting chicks from older chickens and other predators but Ants are an issue for everything here. Poison around the coop is not an option for me.

Baby Chicks are very independent and start eating and drinking just after breaking out of the egg shell. They only need their Mom's for warmth and protection. But this is Panama so we can eliminate the warmth issue. LOL

Here is were it all begins, we have 3 hens left hatching eggs now

Hens are very dedicated when hatching eggs and only leave for short periods to eat some food maybe once or twice a day, but never go far. Once the chicks are hatched, most hens are very attentive but some reject a chick or 2 for whatever reason and can be killed by her or other chicks and chickens.

The Good mother Hens will protect all her chicks and any others you slip under her at night time. They also don't care who layed the eggs they hatch so you can swap them around all you wish.

After the chicks are a week or so old, this mother will raise and protect them. Later show them how to hunt around the yard for bugs and plants.

🐜 Now is payback time for the ants, because at this stage they make a tasty snack for the chicks. The Cycle of Life & death goes on.

💑 December 25th will also be Johana & My 10th Aniversary so it will be a busy Christmas season for us full of Celebrating and Parties. I'll attempt to get some more blogging done but no promises. 💕
