RE: Meat Harvest For THE HOMESTEAD - Canned Meat For The NEXT YEAR
Wow! That was lucky. Two deer in one evening and at the end of season too. Deer are scarce here so we didn't get any this year. Maybe next year. A friend has applied for a licence to raise deer for meat here so perhaps next year will be better. We freeze a fair amount of meat and can the rest. But getting glass jars here is a bit of a problem. I am a throwback homesteader that believes in preserving meats, veggies and fruits for the seasons when it is not plentiful but in a tropical country people eat what is available in the markets. I prefer our own food. I know where and how it was grown ad I get a better variety than the market provides.
Yeah, I prefer food I've grown and harvested myself too. You never know what you are getting from our local grocers.
