You should definitely check out @minnowsupport - it is a great community with the goal of helping minnows / Steem newbies. It only costs .002 steem / steem dollars to register your account with them and once you have paid that negligible fee (which verifies you do have control over the Steemit account you say you do) you can use the Minnow Support Projects upvote robots twice a day (once every 12 hours) for free to upvote posts - your own or others.
