Mother Nature's Cleanup Crew - January 22nd 2018

Mother Nature has been having a temper lately.. causing all this commotion.. a lot of local trees have fallen victim to her winds and water soaked soils this winter season, toppling over the main road that heads back into town. A lot of the downed trees fall over the main power lines as well, occasionally cutting power to residents, but crews have been diligent in an event.

Today, I took a few hours to clean up around the front of our property where an old pine at fallen, cracking and snapping at the base, as shown. I believe someone had taught me that old pines can get insects that burrow up the hard wood interior, killing and weakening the tree as such. It did appear that there were plenty of holes in the tree, I didn't think to snap a photo up close, but I did not see any dust at the base of the tree as expected with bugs.
