Just Some Updates And Some Things Happening At The Homestead.

in #homesteading6 years ago

As most of you know I am not going to be using @basicstoliving anymore. It was an account that the wife wanted and she wants to shut it down, so as it is her account I am doing so. The good part of it is that I am powering down that account and moving all the SP to this account. She told me to go and build my own channel where I could post about many things not just homesteading. As @basicstoliving she wanted to do just homesteading and at the point that we are at there was no way to make lots of posts on what we are doing as we are moving slowly because of the way we are going about starting the homestead.

We have no equipment and no horses and we have all the trees down right now that we needed and trying to get it cleaned up with us pulling the limbs and stuff with the minivan and by hand. it is a slow process she did not want to show that because we do not get much done every day and it would just be the same old stuff day in and day out. Yes, it is the hard way but that is the way we have to do it. When I figure out what I have to pay for with this surgery we will be saving again for a truck and a tractor to help on the homestead which will be so nice. I will have to get a trailer to haul it on too.

As I am still down somewhat from my knee surgery on the 6th of August it is even slower. We did get some cleaned up around the small house so we can get the trees that are down behind it dragged to the back so we can burn them. That was yesterday. We finally dug out the door we bought for the pallet cabin and we got it put in today. Yes, we did it but with me having to sit down every 20 minutes or so to rest the knee it took all day and normally it would have only taken a couple of hours. We also got two more windows in the small house and again an all day project for me, we have one left to go in and the windows will be done, then we can get the sheetrock hung and tape, mud, and paint.

My knee is improving and it gets stronger moving around on it but it hurts like crazy at night so I just rest and get it better to go again the next day. When you are starting a homestead there is no rest for the weary. When the small house is done we will be working on building some pallet houses to hold us over till the AirCrete Blocks can get made and enough of them made for a house. The pallet houses will then be guest quarters or we will make them a man or woman caves. LOL. Sorry, there are no pictures for this post as I just needed to get sit down and off the knee after today. I will try to get some later and show you what is happening here. We will have to paint the pallet cabin again as we had to caulk up some stuff on the pallet cabin and the old screw holes from the used plywood and such.

Remember if you followed me on @basicstoliving please come on over and follow me on this channel @ambiguity. I will still get posts to everyone from this channel from now on. Hope everyone had a good day/night, whatever it is in your neck of the woods. Please do not forget to follow @ambiguity and please upvote and resteem. Thanks Everyone!

Sounds like you are putting a lot of effort in at the moment. Obviously you have taken on a big project here and if your not up to full health it's going to be a tough one. I hope you get it on the right track soon and looking forward to actually seeing the task in front of you.

Once this knee is mended it will be so much better. It will take some time to heal as I am moving around three weeks out of surgery. Thanks! I will get more pictures and some more videos as we go along. Have a great night!

Best of luck with it.

Take it easy on that knee until it has fully healed! The work on a homestead never ends, especially if you are doing like we are debt free! It is the best feeling at the end of the day to see what you have accomplished and sleep a whole better because there is no large debt hanging over your head.

Yes, it never ends but when we get some things built we can take a breath. I was not pushing it too hard, just being up on it for a period of time makes it hurt. I will take it easy tomorrow and Tuesday I have PT. So it will be good, I came in and iced it down. The work you do makes you sleep pretty good at night. LOL

That image from Pinterest is awesome. But anyway, it sounds like you have your work cut out for yourself, especially with a bung knee. Now, enlighten me, because I'm not certain - is a 'Homestead' kind of like a specialised farm, or is it more of a house on a larger block of land. Sorry to be ignorant, its one of those words you hear batted around often, but never really know exactly what it actually is.

Thanks! A homestead is just where someone lives substantially for themselves as much as possible. Raising their own food, such as gardens and animals. It is sometimes on a 1/3 of an acre it does not have to be a big piece of land, just doing what you can for yourself and your family. I guess you could say it is a frame of mind to know where your food comes from and it is not wanting to eat all the processed food in the supermarkets. Wanting to eat meat without all the antibiotics and everything that is given to the animals to keep them healthy in the crowded conditions of the commercial farms. Yes, I have a hard road ahead and it will take some time but we will get there. I ham hoping that I can show others it can be done through Steemit and also use Steemit to help with getting some things we need here on our homestead. Have a great day!

Thanks for all of that. It makes sense that people find curating their own food more appealing than buying it from supermarkets.

I remember working in a fruit and veg supplier, a long time ago, and was loading a bin of Granny Smith apples on a truck. My boss pulled me aside and told me I had a bin of Jonathan’s, but they were completely green. Turns out they pick them about six months in advance, spray them with some chemical and let them ripen in the cool room.
