hello, fellow Steemit users. In this cricketing world, there have been several players who have the capability to perform very well but because of a few bad performances and mistakes, they tend to get underrated. As a result, they are often dropped from the squad and miss the opportunity of playing to showcase their skills. As per the rules of this contest, I will talk about one such cricketer. The cricketer I choose is Dinesh Karthik.

Dinesh Karthik is a wicket-keeper/ batsman of India. He was tried out as a wicket-keeper in the Ganguly era by India even before, the arrival of MS Dhoni. He made his debut in 2004 against England in 2004. He was just 19 years old then. The highlight of his very first match was his airborne image of stumping Michael Vaughan at Lord's. This event has made it to the mental timelines of cricketing history ever since. He has been frequently in and out of the Indian cricket team ever since, and even though hid did not get much chance, he still tried to make the best out of it. Now, let's take a look at as to why he was dopped out frequently -

2004 - After his debut, there were certain scenarios of mediocre performances by him. Thereafter, there was the recruitment of Dhoni in the team, so Karthik was no longer the first priority, and his dopping in and out of the team began.

2008 - There was some poor display in wicketkeeping against Sri Lanka in 2008. As a result, he lost his place as a wicket-keeper to Parthiv Patel.

2013 - After his brilliant performance in IPL 2013, Karthik got the chance to play in the XI. But due to Rohit, Dhawan, and other batsmen going before him, he never actually got the chance to perform. Thus, even thugh he got the opportunity yet he could not make the most of it through no fault of his own.

2015 - He was not selected to play in the World Cup squad and got dropped from this great opportunity.

2018 - In the England tour, Karthik got the opportunity when Saha was injured. However, he did not do well in the first two test matches and as a result, Pant was given the opportunity and he took it pretty well.

Despite a few failures, Karthik is still a very capable batsman and wicket-keeper. He has performed very well in IPL matches and in other international matches as well. However, he did not get much chance, and a few failures in the ones he got, failed to get him the recognition he deserved.
