The unbeaten 150 pairs of Allan Border

in Cric-World 🏏4 years ago

On March 18, 1980. Australia and Pakistan face off in Lahore, Pakistan, for the final Test of a three-match Test series. Australia was trailing 1-0 in the series and was aimed to win the last match and draw the series. But in the end, the Lahore Test ended in a lifeless draw. The two teams took only 24 wickets in 398 overs in five days. The bowlers had to bowl more than a hundred balls for one wicket.

Although the end result of the match was a lifeless draw, the match has become memorable in the pages of history thanks to Australian batsman Alan Border. He was the first and only batsman to score 150 runs in two innings in the history of test cricket. He had done it in this Lahore Test. After won the toss, Former Aussie captain Greg Chappell elected to bat first, Australia batted 142 overs and scored 407 for seven. The highest run comes from Border's bat. He played an unbeaten innings of 150 off 281 balls.

In the 2nd innings, Pakistan batted 140 overs and declared the innings at 420 for 9. Australia's dream of victory vanished with this score. In the end, Australia batted 117 overs without walking on the path of victory. They did not give Pakistan a chance to play the second innings. Border also played the highest innings of 153 in the second innings of Australia. He hit 17 fours and five sixes off just 164 balls.

After playing 150 runs in both innings, three batsmen got a chance to sign their name next to Border. Zimbabwe's Andy Flower played 142 and 199 * innings against South Africa in 2001. In the last Ashes, Steven Smith played 144 and 142 innings.
However, Tillakaratne Dilshan came closest. He scored 162 runs in the first innings and 143 runs in the second innings against Bangladesh in 2009. Although he could not break Border's 150-run record in two innings, he batted at number six and set the record for most runs in a single match. Border scored 303 runs with six wickets against Pakistan. Dilshan scored 305 runs.
