End of Bangladesh test series | Recap
Bangladesg tour of Sri Lanka for two test matches ended couple f days ago as Sri Lanka won the series as 1-0 and more surprising news were out among the series. This article is about recap of what happened in the test series and big changes going to be happening in limited overs team.
First test was an absolute dead match as the pitch had no assistance to both fast bowlers and spinners and batsman scored freely from both the sides, the highlight has been Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne scoring a double hundred.
The second test was rather different. The pitch had no spin for the the faster bowlers in the first couple of day in which Sri Lankan batsman got the maximum reward by batting first and put a huge total of 493/9d. Bangladesh had a good start as runs flew continuously Tamim Iqbal's bat as through in the tournament and the highlight has been the young left arm spinner in the name of Praveen Jayawickrama grabbing 6 wickets in his debut match.
Bangladesh were all out for 251 and Sri Lanka didn't enforced the follow on as it would be tougher to bat on fourth innings. So they've scored some quick runs and declared for 194/9, setting Bangladesh a target of 437 to get in one and half days on a spinning track, which seems very hard if not impossible.
Bangladesh collapsed quickly again and this time Tamim's resistance was not enough to save them. Most of the batsmen played losely, didn't show much intent on saving the match but fair enough it was a challenge on a spining track with young but talented two spinners bowling.
So bangladesh collapsed for 227 and the most highlighted thing was the spin bowling duo of the Lankan team. Praveen after having a dream start to his career in the first innings, again took 5 wickets of Bangladesh and won the man of the match award for his 11 wickets on debut. The other spinner was Ramesh Mendis, also playing his second test and got three most experienced players of the Bangladesh team- Tamim, Mominul and Mushfiqur , the most crucial scalps of the match.
Afterall Sri Lanka had a satisfying series, all of their batsman got runs except Mathews and unearthed some gems in spin bowling department. This performance made captain Karunarathnae positioned in 11 th of ICC test batsman rankings and Praveen jumped in to 48 of ICC test bowling rankings straight away. Meanwhile Bangladesh als had their moments but a lot to think about as well.
Sri Lanka will leave for Bangladesh for limited over series and has announced some massive news ahead. Hope to bring them in another article. Until then, Good bye!
Stay Safe!
I think the toss played a key factor. Also, Bangladesh batting order couldn't perform.
Yeah Exactly!
I am hopeless on BD teams performance. They were playing like a immature team.
Yeah I'm afraid so. But I think they'll perform better in ODI s as Sri Lankan ODI team is weak as well.
Quality came out from test cricket
