Dog Care & Education (Lesson 09) How to teach them to walk beside us - Como enseñarles a caminar a nuestro lado
Hello, dear friends of Steem Skillshare, as it is always a pleasure to write for you. Today I want to continue the subject of the previous class, when I gave you practical tools to make our dogs stop pulling the rope when walking. Before continuing with the lesson, I want to leave you a list of the previous workshops:
Once we have taught our dog to stop pulling the rope, and are familiar with the commands "stop" and "let's go", what follows is that he learns to walk beside us.
The first thing we should do is let him fulfill his physiological needs, then let him play and expend excess energy, do not leave him too exhausted because then he will not want to practice.
Find the ideal space to practice, a large place such as a park, a square, or wide sidewalks that give us freedom of movement.
Prepare a prize to encourage him, something he likes a lot and that is not regular food, better to practice before eating, he will be more motivated.
Keep the food on the side we want it to follow us, I particularly prefer the left side. Make a fist with a snack inside and let him smell the food, when he assumes the position we want, give him the prize. We repeat the process about four times until we get him to do it automatically. Be patient and not despair, surely we will not achieve it the first day, the important thing is to be consistent and not abandon the practices.
Once we have managed to get the dog to stay by our side, we begin to advance with the short leash, if we do not have a short leash we use the regular one taking it from the middle, remember to say "let's go" when starting to walk, if the dog he stays walking by our side, we congratulate him and give him a prize.
If he surpasses us, reduce the distance until he returns to the position, stop, give the order "to the side" and repeat. Do this every day for a maximum of 10 minutes. My recommendation, do it at least 3 or 4 times a week, if we want to see results.
Once our dog follows us, practice turning to the left or right with 90-degree turns, always remember to keep the prize in hand and guide him with it, so he makes the turns. Compliment when he does well. Encouragement and positive reinforcement are always the best way to get results.
Always remember that not all dogs learn at the same speed, which can be influenced by age and level of stress. My dog is still a puppy and is very reactive to stimuli although in practice he does things well, it is common that during the walk, he gets excited when he sees another dog, a pigeon, or was scared by a truck passing by us. The important thing is to be constant with the training and have a lot of patience with them during their learning processes.

Hola queridos amigos de Steem Skillshare, como siempre es un placer escribir para ustedes, el dia de hoy quiero continuar el contenido de la clase anterior, cuando les daba herramientas practicas para hacer que nuestros perros dejaran de tirar de la cuerda al caminar. Antes de continuear con el contenido quiero dejarles un listado con los talleres anteriores:
Una vez hemos conseguido que nuestro perro deje de tirar de la cuerda, y esté familiarizado con los comandos "Alto" y "vamos", lo que sigue es que aprenda a caminar a nuestro lado y seguirnos.
lo primero que debemos hacer es dejar que haga sus necesidades fisiologícas, posteriormente dejarlo jugar y gastar el exceso de energía, no hay que dejarle demasiado agotado porque luego no querrá practicar los ejercicios.
Luego debemos conseguir el espacio ideal para practicar, un lugar amplio como un parque, una plaza o veredas anchas que nos permintan libertad de movimiento.
Debemos tener un premio para incentivarlo, algo quer le guste mucho que no sea comida regular, si lo hacemos antes de comer mucho mejor, estará mas motivado.
Acto seguido colocamos la comida del lado que queremos que nos siga, yo particularmente prefiero el lado izquierdo, cerramos el puño y dejamos que huela la comida, cuando se coloque en la posicion que queremos le damos el premio. repetimos el proceso unas cuatro veces hasta conseguir que lo haga automaticamente. Debemos armarnos de paciencia y no desesperar, seguramente no lo lograremos el primer día, lo importante es tener constancia y no abandonar las prácticas.
Una vez que hemos logrado que el perro se quede a nuestro lado, comenzamos a avanzar con la correa corta, si no tenemos una correa corta usamos la regular tomándola desde la mitad, recuerda decir "vamos" al comenzar a caminar, si el perro se queda caminando a nuestro lado lo felicitamos y le damos un premio.
Si nos sobrepasa reducimos la distancia hasta que vuelva a la posición, nos detemos, damos la orden "al lado" y repetimos podemos hacer esto cada día un máximo de 10 minutos. mi recomendación, hacerlo por lo menos 3 o 4 veces a la semana, si queremos ver los resultados pronto.
Una vez que nuestro perro nos sigue el paso comenzamos a agregar giros a la izquierda o la derecha, podemos practicar con giros de 90 grados, recuerda siempre mantener el premio en la mano y guiarlo con este, para que realice los giros. Felicitarlo cuando lo haga bien, estímulos y refuerzos positivos siempre son la mejor manera de obtener resultados.
Recuerda siempre que no todos los perros aprenden a la misma velocidad, que la edad y el estrés tambien va a influir, mi perro es todavía un cachorro y es muy reacticvo ante los estímulos si bien en la practica hace las cosas bien, es común que durante la caminata se exite al ver a otro perro, al conseguirse con una paloma o lo asuste un camion pasando a nuestro lado. Lo importante es ser constante con los entrenamientos y tenerles mucha paciencia durante sus procesos de aprendizaje.
Una vez que hemos dominado la tecnica de hacerle caminar a nuestro lado sin contratiempos, el próximo paso es enseñarle a caminar sin correa, de eso les hablaré en el próximo taller. Muchas gracias por leer. Saludos desde desde Rosario.
