In this lecture, I am going to teach you how to draw NaCl Structure in an easy way.

Structure of NaCl

• First, draw a square with the help of a scale keeping all lengths equal.

• Draw another square of same area within the first one.

• Now join all corners.

• Find the center point of the line as highlighted and mark it.

• Now draw the third square as shown below.

• Now find the center points of all these lines as highlighted and mark them.

• Join all these center points with lines as shown below.

• Now draw three more vertical lines in the center.

• Find the center points of these vertical lines.

• Join the center points of these vertical lines as well.

• Now draw three horizontal lines in the center as shown below.

• The skeleton of NaCl structure has been completed. Now, its time to put sodium and chloride ions on this structure. First, we are going to put chloride ions. Draw 5 chloride ions at the corners of lower layer and 5 at the corners of upper layer.

• Draw 4 chloride ions in the middle layer as shown below.

• Now put one sodium ion in the center of the structure.

• Finally, put all other 12 sodium ions in a manner that each of these ions comes in between two chloride ions.

That is the final structure of NaCl
