Question 2

Explain the types of sentences we have and give 3 examples each.

Types of sentence

As I have learnt, we have 4 basic types of sentences, they are:

  • Declarative sentence
  • Imperative sentence
  • Interrogative sentence
  • Exclamatory sentence

Declarative sentence

This is the type of sentence that is used to relay a message. It's more like a sentence. It always ends with a full-stop.
For example:

  • I love to hear you sing.
  • I love to do power up every week
  • She doesn't work on Sundays

Imperative sentence

It is a type of sentence that expresses a command, request or advice it may end with a full stop or an exclamatory mark.

Examples

  • Leave the matter to me
  • please check my work and give your opinion|
  • get out from here!

Interrogative sentence

These are the sentences that make use of questions. They always end with a question mark and begins with an interrogative pronouns.
These pronounce include; what, who, when, why, whose, home which which are also known as whquestions.
Examples of interrogative questions

  • When did you join steemit
  • Who told you about stew in skillshare Community
  • why are you so idle

Exclamatory sentence

These are statements used to show reaction or to convey strong emotion or even excitement.
This type of sentence ends with a exclamation Mark.
Examples:

Question 3

Explain the types of sentence structure.

Types of sentence structure

Simple sentence

This is the sentence structure that consists of a single clause having a single subject and a verb
Example

  • She arrived late
  • She danced around

Compound sentence

This is a structure of sentence that are made up of two independent clauses and that joined by coordinating conjunction, coma and semi-colon.
Coordinating conjunction include: For, And , Nor, But, Or, Yet, So etc.

Complex sentence

This is a group f words containing independent clause, that is complete thought and dependent clause, that is incomplete thought.
A complex sentence is made up of two parts. The part of dependent clause and the part of non dependent clause. Independent clause is known as a complete phrase. It will still make sense without being merged with dependent clauses while dependent clause depends on independent clause to create meaning.

Example

  • I love listening to music when I'm bored.

The above sentence contains both dependent and independent clause. The phrase "I love listening to music" is an independent phrase because it still makes a meaning when it is alone. But for the other part of the sentence which is; "When I'm bored", it is a dependent clause . It makes no meaning when used alone.
