Am super happy to participate in this contest. I consider this contest very interesting and engaging since we've been asked to share with the community food in our locals. So in this post I will be sharing with us one of the delicious food we have here in the south south region of Nigeria where I reside.
The Name of the food is STARCH & BANGA SOUP.

Starch and Banga soup is one of the delicacies common to those in the south southern part of Nigeria,the Edo Delta people to be precise. The starch is one of the product derived from cassava and it can be used to make what we call swallow. The Banga is gotten from Palm tree,the palm fruit (Banga) is what generates the oil which serves as the integral recipe of this Banga soup. You could also use other swallow to enjoy this soup such as fufu and eba and the good thing is that the preparation of this soup doesn't take time including the starch.
Ingredients
- Banga
- Fresh fish
- Dry pepper
- Onion
- Banga spice
- Crayfish
- Salt
- Seasoning cubes
- Fish/Beef (Your Preference)
- Stock fish
- Water
Steps in preparing Banga soup
Step 1: Get your Banga (palm fruit),was toroughly and then cook for 30Mins to soften it.
Step 2: Mash it and wash again
Step 3: Drain the oil from the Banga,keep it in a pot and dispose shaft.
Step 4: cook the oil (which I call the real banga) gotten from the mashing for 10 minutes after adding your dry pepper,banga spice and onion
Step 5: wash your fresh fish/ beef add to the pot then cook for 25 m 10 minutes before pouncing on it.
Step 7: Pour a little palm oil into a pot to prepare your starch
Step 8: You then add your starch on low heat and begin to stir toroughly to avoid lumps
Step 9: Continue to stir until it solidifies
Step 10: Dish it and enjoy it with your Banga soup.
