a. Define illustration in your own words

Brief History

The origins of illustration can be traced back to before common era. The era of cave painting where paleolithic make use of charcoal to illustrate what they see around them before the era of writing . After the era of charcoal the era of wood caving took over. A notable series of Egyptian illustrations like legends of the after-life (tombs of Pharaohs) was created using woodcuts.

Definition of Illustration

Illustration is a painting or drawing that explains , clarify or visually explain something. illustration must not to be drawn, a photo in a journal or magazine can also be an illustration once it explains what is written .

Illustration can convey an idea or thought even without a text nearby. People can look at a story picture and "read" it as if they are reading text because the image tells a story .

So technically if your drawing is not saying something, it's just an art work not an illustration.

Like I pointed out in the origin of illustrator that in the Ancient era that illustration design were done using pen, ink, charcoal before it were replicated using a woodcuts, engraving, lithography, photography etc. But in these 21st century most of the illustrations are designed or created using computer graphics applications like Adobe Illustrator, Coreldraw, Photoshop etc.

Concept Art

Concept art is the working material employed in choosing a suitable atmosphere for a work , it can be in movies, games and other industries.

Concept art is created after trying severe new ideas. What matters is not choosing a beautiful image rather is applying the appropriate image. The chosen image contains the director's final sketch after undergoing several criticism. In concept art the environments, characters, costumes, and items are taken into consideration.

Technical Illustration

The purpose of a technical illustration is to give an accurate and simple understanding to an object. In technical illustration, the beauty of the image holds no regard, but the clarity and simplicity of the image for easy understanding determines it's quality.

c. What's the difference between a graphic design and an illustration

Illustration and Graphics design is now becoming more and more accessible, which makes it inevitable not to mistake them for one another. Below is the major difference between illustration and graphic design.

Graphic Design	Illustration
Graphic Design focuses on design and its various components	Illustration focuses on creating specific image
Graphic design combines animation, text and other elements to develop a message.	Illustration Create a image that can independently communicate a message to the viewer.
Graphic design Work is mostly seen on project works such as print ads, product packaging etc.	Illustration is mostly seen books like magazines and journals etc.
Most times graphic designer work is seen ready-made objects and their duty is to create suitable compositions from them.	Illustrators create their work from scratch .

d. What is the importance of an illustration

Illustration is not just an art that is primarily to use create images and pictures below is some of the important of illustration.

Enhancing Development in Children

Illustrations is broadly used in children’s books because of their visual appeal to enhance their cognitive learning. Illustration helps a child to understand text better and to begin comprehension of word earlier.

Convey message

Illustrations is used to convey message that is difficult to explain using text alone because human brain perceive visual information faster .

For Drawing Attention of the Viewer.

Illustration is use to draw the attention of the viewer.
Illustrations can be use to get the attention of the viewer and it is only then the viewer can invest their time in getting further information about the product .
