Funny English. Lesson 3: Dead Duck // club5050

Greetings to all readers and authors of the wonderful Steem Skillshare community. It's time for another Funny English lesson.

Let me remind you that in our lessons we learn English idioms related to animals. And today our conversation will be about birds.

There are a lot of expressions in English related to winged and feathered friends. One of them: KILL TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE.Don't be afraid, we won't throw stones at birds! It just means that a person wants to do two actions at once.In Russian, for example, we don't kill birds, but we kill hares.Oh, why do people need to kill some animals constantly?)

Another English idiom sounds: PLAY CHICKEN. Again, you don't have to pretend you're a chicken. It means that someone is playing a dangerous game.

And here's more about the duck: DEAD DUCK. Some dead animals again, right? And you must have tensed up again. Relax and take it easy! This expression means: an unnecessary person or a thing that has fallen out of use. It's sad too, but better than dead ducks.

Housewives can take note of the following expression. AS EASY AS DUCK SOUP. This means that something can be done easily and effortlessly. By the way, have you ever tried to cook duck soup? I think it's still not as simple as chicken soup.Correct me if I'm wrong.

Why do we need to know these bloody idioms? Firstly, it makes speech richer and more diverse. Secondly, knowing idioms, you will understand the speech of native speakers correctly. Otherwise you really might think that the narrator will kill ducks, and then cook soups with these poordead ducks. Although that's what happens in human life.
