but it seems to me that if we humans don't tamper with nature, then Nature has tremendous power to heal itself.

You are right, the time has come humans should realize the importance of nature and its ecosystem, all the living creatures co-exist in this ecosystem and humans forerun its destruction in the name of modernization, development, one day the consequences will be severe and irreversible. So we must be sane and realize its importance, at least for our next generation.
