Celebrating Rakshabandhan

in Best of India3 years ago (edited)

Rakshabandhan is a festival that celebrates the bonding of a Brother and Sister. Yesterday was the day and luckily we have been in town to celebrate it with family. On this day the Sister ties a Rakhi (A thread) on the wrist of the brother and pray for their long and happy life and in return the brother gives a promise that they will forever take care of their sisters and protect them against all odds. In the word Rakshabandhan - Raksha means Protection and Bandhan means Bonding.

Though I do not have any Brother, but I do have my cousin brothers, and they are all out of Country so now a days we virtually wish each other. My Son also is a single child but again he has cousins and we celebrate this day with them. It is not necessary that the day is only celebrated between real brothers and sisters, it can be celebrated between anyone who considers this relation with each other.

This is my elder sister tying Rakhi to my hubby, she consider him brother.

And she is my cousin sister. They were all emotional yesterday since last year he was critically ill and it was like returning back to life.

My nieces doing the ceremony for my Son. Every year we are all not in the same city, after many years we have all been together on this day, so it's very overwhelming for them as well.

After completing the ceremonies we all proceeded out for dinner. The kids love barbeque food and since it is their day we decided to take them to a restaurant where they serve barbeque food. The name of the restaurant is Barbeque Nation. It's a famous chain in India and the kids love and enjoy the food there, so it was the best choice we could make.

All happy faces, eagerly waiting for the food :-)

It feels like just yesterday all of them were so small and today they have grown taller than us. Love them all.

The history of this festival goes back to the times of Mahabharat. It is said that Lord Krishna had once hurt his wrist and was bleeding, to stop the Bleeding Draupadi (wife of pandavas) had torn the end of her saree to tie it on his wrist to stop the bleeding. In turn Lord Krishna promised Draupadi as a gesture of gratitude that he will always protect her and since then this festival is being celebrated. India is full of festivals and each one of them has some base. Most of them originating from the times of Ramayana and Mahabharat. It is traditionally a Hindu festival but in India everyone celebrates irrespective of the religion. That is the beauty of India, where we come together and celebrate all festivals then be it they belong to our traditions or not.

I am enjoying my every moment from the time I have landed. I have 2 more days in the city and then I will travel back to Mumbai my own home, which also I am eagerly looking forward to.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
